Prior to my planned Ramsey Campbell Xmas quiz, which I'll do if this works, here is a bit of light relief I've knocked up in a spare few moments this afternoon. All you have to do is identify the 1960/1970 British horror classic the lines (possibly slightly misquoted or altered not to give to much away) come from. And if no-one wants to have a go I don't mind as it's been fun discovering the top 15 quotes that spring to my mind anyway 1 That was done with a bicycle chain? 2 Are you telling me that an ape that lived two million years ago broke out of that crate, killed the baggage man and put him in there, then locked everything up neat and tidy, and got away? 3 Wash yourself, or someone will do it for you. 4 Course, there’s lots of things a blind man CAN do 5 --and I hope you enjoy snuffing it. 6 I have created four messengers of death, four horsemen of my created apocalypse, four carriers of the plague who will infect their miserable brethren. You, ------, are now one of the four. 7 To his glorious majesty King James III - May God bless him and keep him in exile. 8 There have been seventeen cases so far – bodies found with every drop of blood drained out of them. 9 Lacked originality? My Julius Caesar – cut down by a drunken mob in an abandoned warehouse? My Titus Andronicus – ‘This is Your Dish Merridith Merridew? My Othello? One of the greatest performances in the history of the theatre! 10 He takes the form of a cat. But he’s not a cat - he’s inside me. He’s inside my head! 11 They have destroyed my servant. They will be destroyed. 12 That’s right – go. Run away and hide from the truth like that idiot downstairs. But it won’t do any good you know you can tell Rutherford for me. Tell him the truth will find him out. Tell him! 13 And the sky father shall weep. Weep! That means rain, Waterlow 14 That he’s dead is of no importance. Best thing that could have happened to him. He was of no use to us or to himself. Now we shall need new material, naturally. Herr Abner in 106 perhaps. No? Oh well, we’ve plenty of time to decide that. Plenty of time. 15 Richard? I don’t know anyone called Richard. My name is Dominik. If anyone at all shows interest I'll post the answers after a suitable time period has elapsed. And of course anyone who knows my predilection for movies should be able to guess most of them anyway. JLP |

I actually recognise all of these, but because of rubbish recall (probably due to years of drinking) I can only take a stab at the following: 2-Horror Express 5-Aargh! I should know this one! 6- Dracula AD 1972? 9-Theatre of Blood 15-Either Tales that Witness Madness or Asylum

>>>15 Richard? I don’t know anyone called Richard. My name is Dominik. Is this from the Judy Finnegan show, circa 2032? She's managed to retain her marbles, but can't bring herself to dump her senile hubbie who just babbles on. |

Like Zed, I feel I know most of these, but the titles elude me. For now, I'm fairly confident of the following: 2 - Horror Express 4 - Tales From the Crypt (not too sure about this one) 5 - From Beyond the grave (spoken by Peter Cushing) 9 - Theatre of Blood 13 - The Creeping Flesh 15 - The House That Dripped Blood |

Hey - thanks to so many for joining in! Huw has the highest score so far with six correct answers (number 4 is wrong, Huw, but it IS an Amicus movie) Hubert's spot on with number 6 and 14 is indeed a Hammer Frankenstein. "John Elder" always felt it was a very poignant line in view of where it occurs in the series. Zed will need to see me in Detention later. |

I have to hang my head in shame as I see just how much I've neglected my British horror film education. I'm trying to improve, though. I think the best I can offer is the certainty that none of the quotes are from "Wicker Man". And if I'm wrong there, well... |

Indeed it is Ramsey. Or possibly Alfred Shaughnessy as it has never been made clear how much of the original shooting script made it into the final draft. Glad to see someone paying attention to my less than subtle clue. OK so the answers are: 1 FRIGHTMARE 2 HORROR EXPRESS 3 HOUSE OF WHIPCORD 4 DR TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS 5 FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE 6 SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA 7 BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW 8 VAULT OF HORROR. 9 THEATRE OF BLOOD 10 TORTURE GARDEN 11 TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA 12 ASYLUM 13 THE CREEPING FLESH 14 FRANKENSTEIN & THE MONSTER FROM HELL 15 HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD Hope it provided a moment's amusement. |

I've left a quote from Blake and a chicken egg (99p per dozen in Somerfield) in the mouth of my latest victim. The Blake quote is: "At least we didn't get beat." [Robbie Blake, Burnley FC.] Let's see if he can figure that engima out. |
