This is an appeal for information.

In the late 1970s or early 80s I was given a box of collectable cards from (I think) PG Tips or Tetley which had stills of horror films on them. I remember the image of the cartwheel impaling Christopher Lee in Dracula AD 1972, and several other stills. I'm pretty sure they were from a tea company because I remember the gorgeous aroma of tea-leaves everytime I took them out of the tin.

Anyone else remember them? I'd love to pick the collection up again. Sadly mine were lost in the mists of time, but now my pocket money has increased I might be in a position to get them again.

You guys on here seem to have the best knowledge of any of the forums I visit, so I'm banking on you. :-)

PG Tips used to do a lot of this kind of stuff in the 1970s. Horror was everywhere back then.

Remember wear-em-scare-ems? Tudor crisps promotion from the late 1970s? I'd love to get my hands on those relics of my youth.

Gary, I'd totally forgot about Wear-em-scare-ems.

And Tudor crisps, for that matter.

I don't remember the Tudor crisps at all, but we used to get PG Tips all the time, and I remember the cards that used to come with them. I think they used to come with packs of sausages too...

Ty-Phoo of course did the Dr Who cards. Ty-Phoo tea was bloody horrible & seeing as tea was all that was ever consumed in the Probert household my parents really made a sacrifice foregoing the old PG for a few months.

Steve - I think the cards you're referring to were bubblegum cards (possibly from Topps or somewhere like that). Each card was a horror film still with a 'funny' comment printed at the bottom and it was meant to a a comedy thing more than horror, but most of the pictures were from Hammer films. After this all those series devoted to Star Wars & Superman came out

Remember the Space 1999 cards that came with Sweet Cigarettes? (What a marvellous thing they were...!).

I had the 'banned' one of Dan Mateao with his face all burned.

It would be worth a bit now if I only knew where it bloody was!

I want an Eagle from that show. You know, the little toy.
I have the gorgon and maybe the werewolf of those tin things that came with the crisps.

I still have a 'kung fu' medallion from 'Look-In' magazine from the early seventies, when Bruce Lee (not to mention David Carradine) was all the rage.

John, I think you're right about the horror cards; I do have vague memories of the inane comments. Thanks for that. I'll google them.

Anyone remember collecting the 'Bones' crisp packets (I think they were salt n vinegar) to send away for a horror mask? I think you could get a skull, or a vampire, or a bat or something.

And Fangs crisps. I used to eat them because I liked horror. The cards I remember are 'Die Laughing' and were largely black and white, with yes, some bad (but at the time funny) jokes, and largely featuring Universal monsters.

I liked Fang crisps, but preferred the salt and vinegar Bones. Loved them actually. I hope someone's writing all this down.

Hmm. Maybe i didn't like them, then. Beef crisps always just tasted of 'deep salt'.

I always thought that salt 'n' vinegar as tasting blue. Sorry, Walkers, you got it wrong. It's always been very hard to get ready salted crisps here. Cheese & Onion was the default instead.

'Deep salt' is just a sort of echoey, warm saltiness - not sharp, but rather like an oven door being opened on your tongue.
I still feel the blue cheese crisps/green vinegar was a kind of minor crime, a big 'V's up to the mind and instinct. It felt a very tory step.
Anyone hear what this BNP bloke said about the leak of member's names? 'It's like we're becoming a fascist state'. What tickles me is that they seem embarrassed at being revealed.

Did Walkers used to have blue for salt & vinegar?

Yeah, I think some of them are embarrassed, but it is a breach of the rights of their members (and their children, who are also on the list), and could lead to people being targeted merely for having unpopular political views. It really bugs me when BBC interviewers are sneery towards BNP politicians they've invited onto their show in a way they wouldn't be to any other party. Have robust debate on the issues, sure, but maintain your professionalism, eh?

I agree. And I think their views would relax if ours did, too. People like being given the chance to be good.
Yeah, Walkers switched them round.

Now I'm more concerned about the Walkers thing than the BNP.
