Um... it is good. In fact much of it is beautiful. It's just THAT scene does take it over (my god it's shocking). I don't think such a scene should overtake an entire film because the rest of the film feels profound in the most subtle way. It has beautiful music, and perhaps the most beautiful photography I've seen.
And isn't Gallo odd? He talks in quite an effeminate way yet looks like a greek God.
And I loved Violet, the girl with the wonky teeth at the beginning. So good to see people not strictly beautiful but with 'something'. A message for the makers of Survivors.

You may be the only person in the world who liked it, Tony! As for 'that' scene, why do they have to do that? It would have been obvious what was going on without actually showing it - it seems to me that often (with very few exceptions) mainstream films with 'real sex' in them are covering up for a lack of something elsewhere, and are often using the media coverage to generate ticket sales.

Never heard of this. But look at this from Wiki:

"Upon his return to America, Gallo took a defiant stance, defending the film and finishing a new edit that clarified and tightened the storyline. A war of words then erupted between Gallo and film critic Roger Ebert, with Ebert writing that The Brown Bunny was the worst film in the history of Cannes, and Gallo retorting by calling Ebert a "fat pig with the physique of a slave trader."[4] Ebert then responded, paraphrasing a statement attributed to Winston Churchill, that "one day I will be thin, but Vincent Gallo will always be the director of The Brown Bunny." Gallo then claimed to have put a hex on Ebert's colon, cursing the critic with cancer. Ebert then replied that enduring his colonoscopy would be more entertaining than watching The Brown Bunny. Gallo subsequently stated that he had been misquoted, and that the hex had actually been placed on Ebert's prostate, and that the whole thing had been meant as a joke which was misinterpreted by a reviewer.[5]"

...and SHORTBUS, and IRREVERSIBLE. Films that, imho, are trading off the 'scandal' in the media to get bums on seats.

IRREVERSIBLE doesn't have real sex in it, but it does contain an almost unbearable lengthy rape scene.

The director Casper Noe has a history of extreme cinema; IMHO, there's more to his films than simply courting controversy.

I did find that scene difficult to watch, but I never once thought it shouldn't be there.

You're quite right, my mistake, I was thinking of BAISE-MOI.

...but I never once thought it shouldn't be there.

I agree, but that wasn't what I was trying (badly!) to say...

Plus Gaspar Noe finally got the rude thing done in a music video for a song by Placebo...

BAISE-MOI gets around 4.5 out of ten on imdb, at least five points more than it deserves.

For the record I though IRREVERSIBLE a powerful film, although that does make it sound as if I'm agreeing with Gary Fry, who, as we know, knows etc., etc.

Bunny was INCREDIBLY graphic. I've seen nowt like it in a mainstream film (except maybe that Intimacy). I liked a lot of the film, but not all. The BJ bit, um, 'distracted' me...

Baise-Moi works neither as pornography or as a well thought out modern noir. It fails on all fronts. I have no desire to see Brown Bunny. I love Buffalo 66, his first film, but after hearing him interviewed, reading more about Brown Bunny etc etc I had no desire to see the movie.

It's painfully poignant in places. I recommend it, to a point.
A blunt, HUGE, shiny point.

As I may have said before, 9 SONGS is worth watching only for its live music sections – especially BRMC and Primal Scream. The 'real sex' is strangely dehumanised, all the more so as there is no script and the girl talks surreal gibberish, while the boy says next to nothing. He does, however, have all the right attribute to be a porn star.

Wonderfully, the actress had a cameo role in a film shortly after in which she played a film actress who declares "I hate my part." Pun very much intended...
