I cannot wait for this - the BBC's contribution to the true spirit of Christmas (ie Horror) this year Mark Gatiss has written an anthology ghost story in the style of the MR James adaptations of the 1970s. It's going to be shown over several nights on BBC4 with the entire omnibus movie being repeated on Christmas Eve. Apparently the stories will cover several different time periods and the framing device is the house of the title Hooray! |

John, this is the first I've heard of this. You've no idea how much you've stirred my excitement for Christmas. I'm hopeful that BBC4 might repeat the 'Six Films to Keep You Awake' series that they showed earlier in the year. They've had a ghost season over the festive period for the last few years. Speaking of which, recently I've increasingly come to think of Christmas - other than the obvious religious festival - as synomynous with ghosts, as it is with Santa. For me, Christmas is more evocative than Halloween for things that go bump in the night. My poor kids... |

I hope this gets repeated on BBC1 or 2 - I don't get any of the other channels either. It sounds promising ... Oh, and r.e. 6 Films to Keep You Awake - it's available as a 3 disc Region 1 (US) DVD set, at a very reasonable price (check Amazon). |

Surely there are TV listings for the festive season available already - it's nearly the end of November, after all. |

Simon: Will this program be aired on Canadian TV as well, or do you have some special satellite hook-up? If it's the latter, can I come over to your place on Christmas Eve? Fran won't mind. I promise to bring fruitcake and my finest carol-singing voice... ...and I will hold you close during the really frightening scenes. Whadda ya say? |

It sounds like there's going to be TWO fruitcakes at the Strantzas's this yuletide. In seriousness, I doubt this will be available in Canada by any legal means, but who's to say what might happen? It is the season of miracles, after all. |

I'm A CELEBRITY is great this year. And I so wish my video recorder still worked: I could tape LOOSE WOMEN then . . . Brit telly's only got interesting again recently. Because, I suspect, folk our age who grew up on weird stuff in the 70s and early 80s are now in charge of programme commissioninginging . . . That's my guess. |

I think kids telly failed because it didn't do drama. It was all silly 'naughty' shit, and that gets tiring so fast. Even Grange Hill went comedic and unreal. Poor kids. Actually, at the minute my youngest is really into the first series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. He loves it. Now who would commision such a thing for kids? A bunch of ugly arguing blokes cementing bricks and friendships? |
