Not quite as nerve-grindingly intense as DEAD MEN'S SHOES, but still very fine. The irony of the boy trying on his NF gear while listening to Toots & the Meytals' 'Pressure Drop' is disturbing. The film's also a very good example of how to deal with adolescent sexuality without infringing the privacy of young actors. |

Hello Joel - missed you. That is all I wanted to say - not detracting from This is England, as long as it doesn't get in the way of SPOOKS which I'll be watching tonight :>) |

The irony of the boy trying on his NF gear while listening to Toots & the Meytals' 'Pressure Drop' is disturbing. Indeed - also a great shame that Shane Meadows' films are about the only place you're likely to hear the too-wonderful Mr Hibbert (apart from frequently at my house). |

I dunno - I found some of the undercurrents to This Is England kind of distasteful. There seemed to be the suggestion that the only bad skinhead is a mad skinhead, and that the rest were okay really. A lot of it just didn't convince. What seemed particularly strange was the seemingly dubbed in line near the end which suggested that the guy the main antagonist beat to a pulp in the end was actually only in a coma and hadn't died after all, despite the previous scene having definitely indicated that he was dead. Which is a shame, as it was a very well made and well acted piece of cinema - but there was something a bit amiss there... Dead Man's Shoes on the other hand, is one of the best British films ever in my opinion. |

It is based on his own childhood so I suppose some characters are going to be more sympathetically portrayed whether they deserve it or not. The electric to my house cut out half way through and didn't come back on till 8:30 this morning so I've still not seen it all the way through. |
