I use AVG and a Zonealarm firewall. I also have Adaware. All free; all pretty good.

There's a free anti-spybot programme I run as well. I'm blanking on the name right now, but it picks up things that AdAware and virus checkers don't. I have all three, although I don't run them as often as I should. When I get home I'll try to post the name of it.

Ad-Aware often flags up safe things though - it'll list harmless cookies as well as 'dangerous' ones.
