..It's that time of year when silly Christmas songs get attention (a none too subtle plug there). I pride myself on a fair bit of song knowledge but I must have been looking the other way cos I have never heard either Leonard Cohen or Buckleys'version of this song. Ah well. you can't know 'em all. gcw |

You what? Blimey! Cohen's version is the business, but it's had many changes over the years. Buckley's was probably most famous until now, but unfortunately the version everybody's going to know is the one from that bint from some reality show, with the now-obligatory Mariah Carey style wailing in it. Bastards. |

Apparently Leonard Cohen wrote about 80 verses and ended up in a hotel room in his underpants beating the floor with his fists at 3am. |

"Beast of beasts... and Great Old One... And he shall rise... abhorrent and ancient..." Yeah, I much prefer the Lovecraft Christmas carol version of Handel's Hallelujah chorus redone as "Oh Cthulhu". But nobody ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record. |

:-) He's ok, is LC, although in my younger days I always thought of him as a bit "bed-sit studenty". |
