This bloody digital switchover fuckadilly crap is really pissing me off. I've got a fairly new (not digital) tv so, according to the adverts, all I need is an inexpensive set top box. No it fucking isn't. If I want to keep the same level of use of TV as I have now - ie I tape programmes while I'm out and often watch one channel while taping another, I need a digital recorder of some description - NOT inexpensive - AND a set top box. If I just go for the recorder, I can only tape the channel I'm watching. If I go for a twin tuner thingy (also not inexpensive) - they don't have DVD players/recorders built in so they're completely useless for me. It looks like I'm going to have to fork out at least £190 to get the most basic setup - and to watch TV I'm going to need three remote controls. What a fucking load of fucking shit. That's fucking putting it fucking politely as well. |

This is largely why I just don't bother with all that rubbish. As my friend says, too much choice = no choice at all. |

I don't want to promote Murdoch's global domination, but doesn't Sky Plus take care of these problems? |

Never bother with telly in our house. We make our own entertainment... out of twigs and dead things... |

I don't want to promote Murdoch's global domination, but doesn't Sky Plus take care of these problems? Indeed - Sky+ or one of many Freeview "PVR"s, although as Weber points out it's still an extra expense; the two decent Freeview PVRs - the Topfield 5800 and the Humax 9200 - are easily going to set a buyer back by £200. We've used the Topfield box for several years now and wouldn't be without it, but the Humax is less of a "geek's" box than the Topfield. Good thing about the Freeview ones vs Sky+ is that the purchase price is all you pay - with Sky+ you keep paying. And paying. The moment you stop paying you can't access the programmes you've recorded. Conversely the Sky+ has a greater range of programmes, but they're still mostly shite though. On Freeview the only ones we watch are BBC4 and Film4. |

Merleau-Ponty is easier to understand than all this. |

It's a Welsh Red from Pontypool - the slightest less damp and miserable side of the valley |

I have actually had nice Welsh wine. Which is surely a sign that global warming is truly upon us. |

As stated above, Sky Plus comes with a monthly subscription fee which I don't want to have to pay. I'll just have to put up with seven miles of cabling behind my telly and three remote controls just to keep the qualtlity of tv service I have now. |

Of course I now know that I have the money spare to buyy the extra equipment with as I start working at Salford PCT at St James House on Salford Precinct eraly in the new year. As those peeps who know Salford will tell you, that's a 15 minute walk from my house. I never need to drive to work again! Unless its raining or snowing or too cold or too hot or I'm running late or just lazy |
