I'm buying some titles from Wordsworth Editions. Not the classics, those I already have. It's a dive in time, I have to set my psychological clock back to Victorian or Edwardian era to appreciate those ghost stories but some titles are still enjoyable to modern standards. I liked "WAGNER THE WEREWOLF", more of a dark historical novel than horror, a late Gothic crowded with impassionate characters and the requisite "banditti". The correct Italian word would be "banditi", that is bandits, outlaws, but someone must have written the world according to pronunciation and English Gothic literature is teeming with those. The word has lost the disgrace of mistake and even sounds better, as far as Gothics are concerned. The new word even acquired its own atmospherics, now I know Banditti is not merely banditi!

(I'm sorry my presence is so terse in the Forum as I am "adrift on haunted seas" but getting better, however slowly.)
As an aside, after Andromeda Bookshop's breakdown, I went on buying through Peter(Ped) Badlan who used to work there. We even struck an e-mail friendship but I have lost contact for months. Did anybody know him? I hope he's all right. Yours, Giancarlo |

Have you read E.T.A. Hoffmann's The Devil's Elixirs? It's out in a new paperback edition now, and you may enjoy it - it's about as Gothic as you can get.
