Two months ago I fell down stairs. I narrowly missed knocking all my front teeth out and managed to scrape off all the skin on my left elbow. However, I stubbed my toe and think I broke it. Now I can't bend it. I enjoyed running but now have a limp and it hurts. Any advice from someone who's experienced something similar? |

Griff, all I can suggest is go to A&E immediately. Untreated broken bones are dangerous. But I'm sure you know that. |

Griff, as the wise Joel said, go and see the doctor and get it better! And get some opiates for the pain while you're at it - if you have any left over send them to me! (I prefer hydromorphone, btw.) |

Seriously, Griff, about five years I fell while walking the dogs and dislocated my elbow. I could turn the top half and, with a nice hollow sound, the bottom half wouldn't correspond with the motion cos the socket was disengaged. Tres fun. Anyway, I went to the hospital and had it fixed up - the socket had popped back in on the way there. However, a chipping of bone had broken away from the socket, and the doc said although this was safely away from the socket, if it had got caught inside it, I could have been in trouble. So...best get it checked out. |

Sorry to hear about the injury, Griff. I fractured my toe when I was a kid, "kicking the concrete instead of the football," as the doctor kindly wrote on my medical notes. Yeh, do go to A&E. People forget bones have blood in them and bleed. Won't hurt to get it looked at. |

When I was 10 or 11 I would explore old WWII bunkers and such, leaping from one roof onto the next. I recall injuring my right ankle on a rusty piece of barbed wire, ripping out a sizeable chunk of flesh, and my uncle (who's a doctor) putting in four or five stitches without anaesthetic. The scars are still visible. Ah, the joys of childhood. |

We used to have one of those tall fridge freezers at my parents house. One day my mam opened the top section, there was a packet of frozen brussels sprouts on the top shelf that had been put back in without being sealed. When my mam opened the top section, one of the sprouts fell off the top shelf of the freezer, landed on her foot and broke her toe. When she went to hospital, she explained what had happened to the doctor, who looked very serious but made a very quick excuse to leave the room and came back in slightly red in the face. From that point on, every time a new member of staff walked in, this doctor would pull them to one side, point in my mothers direction and they'd both laugh. Don't know why. |

Fruit & vegetable related injuries are always amusing. It's one of the reasons to keep a corkscrew on you - in case something gets a bit stuck where it shouldn't |

"It's one of the reasons to keep a corkscrew on you - in case something gets a bit stuck where it shouldn't" Is it true about "Friday night specials" where otherwise respectable middle-class folk* turn up with "I'm sorry I slipped in the shower and landed on it" type injuries? *often from Clifton. |
