In my ongoing hobby of catching up on all Robert Altman films, I've finally seen O.C. & STIGGS (1985).

Imagine an '80's teen comedy, as directed and envisioned by Altman... no imagining, this is it. It's just wonderful, if you're an Altman fan, and even if you're not - a total feast. One of those rare movies that, when it's over, you wish there were another hour to go.

Classic ensemble Altman, with a big list of performers: Paul Dooley, Dennis Hopper, Jon Cryer, Cynthia Nixon, Martin Mull, Jane Curtin, Ray Walston.... Hilarious characters that, even in quick strokes, are fully-fleshed. And you become attached to every one of them, especially the great two leads... whatever happened to these two actors?...

Altman says on his too-short commentary, that it failed abyssmally at the box-office. I can see why: it's totally askew of such contemporary fare. But somehow, this has a timeless feel to it... thanks to Altman's unique forward/pan-visioning, I guess....

A really kind-hearted film, at its core. See this one, Tony.

Thanks, Craig!
Images came, but not watched it yet. I noticed on the credits that John Williams did the music, which seems really unusual ground for him, and that the photography was by Vilmos Zsigmund, I think, another Spielberg guy. What a picture this is already painting of the film, such wondrous veneer-adders as those two being involved in such a small, unnoticed project. thrilling, really.

Well, Zsigmond shot several Altman films and a great deal that was sleazier. Spielberg isn't actually that central to his career.

John Williams has a pretty varied list of films too:

Ah, but I'm not that in the know about films. I'm a bit of a surface scratcher, really, and things like this can still tickle me.
