Wonder if the Odeon will get this one?

Let's see... tarantula crawling over face, maniacal cackling, mutilation, plentiful nudity, close-up of Joe's claw-like hand in the shadows... yes, it looks like a Coffin Joe film to me! I had no idea a new one was being made.

You can get all his stuff in a 'coffin' box set, but it looks like it's out of print now (there are a few reasonably priced sets on Ebay - not cheap but not exorbitant, either). Lord P and I bought it a while back.

I had no idea either! The Coffin Joe films are extraordinary and definitely a uniquely nightmarish viewing experience (just to make Zed all the more jealous) and this one looks as if it will be just as bonkers. Nice to see Marins seems just as obsessed with the same old stuff. Definitely one of the must-sees of 2009, if only for Huw & me.

Could do with watching some bonkers stuff soon. Where on earth do you get your money from to pay for it all?

£70 for three Coffin Joe films...if I hadn't just bought a new MP3 player I would go for it.

Perhaps next month.

I've just watched AWAKENING OF THE BEAST - the third Coffin Joe movie in the box, and I have to say the last half an hour, when four people go on an LSD-fuelled trip to hell and the film bursts into gaudy technicolour, is one of the weirdest pieces of cinema I have ever seen. It even includes a sequence featuring people's bottoms that was so odd, so silly, and so grotesque I was reduced to fits of laughter.

The first hour plays a bit like the old HG Lewis b&w druggie movies like 'Something Weird', or possibly Joe Sarno's 1960s 'roughies' (hands up who's still with me) but with the accent firmly on weird. There's a lot of foot fetishism, underwear fetishism, ladies peeing naked into chamber pots, and drug taking, and as usual with these movies women get slapped about and have their clothes torn off a lot.

So at least now you know if it might be your cup of tea (Zed)

Zed, there are some cheaper sets on Ebay - one going for $49, another starting at $15. These are opening bid prices though, so you never know. The individual films are up there too, and the starting bid price is only 99 cents or something like that. You might get lucky and get them for a good price...

Now to find my Coffin Joe box... I need to watch the third one - I was saving tit for later, but I have to watch it after reading Lord P's description!

Is that a freudian slip in the last sentence? (where you say one thing but mean a mother)

I actually made a slip of my own and typed thong instead of thing by mistake in the brackets there but spotted it in the preview.

Bloody hell, Weber, I didn't notice that! Saving 'tit', indeed...
