Anyone know much about this? I'm planning to treat myself to a Pure One DAB digital radio this month, for my birthday.

Any advice from you knowledgable lot?

That's a good one. I bought one for £15 quid.

Or was it pence?

Still good.

I get 30 stations and my flat is sheathed in lead. Yes, sheathed. Like in that film.

Gerroff!

Ok, so I'm not funny or interesting. No need to be so ironically sarcastic about it.

(is that the right term? I think the lead is giving off fumes. Due to the fact of the sheathing I mentioned.)

My story telling is too...what's the word?

Tell him, one of the Garys.

Besides, I already posted a link to a couple of shorts I wrote.

No one cared.

Now you'll shirk in horror of having to lie about liking my fiction.

If it is fiction.

Zed, i've really enjoyed DAb for the last few years. It's been an indulgence for me. While there's still some great stations on there, you should be advised that not one -- repeat, not one -- of the digital only stations makes a profit and they're going down like cows in a foot-n-mouth outbreak. The jazz and pure rock stations have closed down at the end of last month; Oneword, devoted to books, collapsed when Channel 4, the owner, pulled the plug suddenyl at the end of last year. Many blame the DAB platform, citing it as the beta max of digital broadcasting.

But the quality's brilliant, and you can still get BBC 7, so that's still worth a punt.

Ta, Lynchy. If the channels are dropiong like flies, I might save the 50 quid to spend on something else. How many channels are there?

Not when I've heard it, it hasn't been! The radio quality from Freeview is better than DAB, and Freeview ain't anything to write home about.

Oh, and they're much more power hungry than standard FM radios, so bear that in mind if you're taking it out and about on batteries.

I get about 36, I think. I'd imagine you'll get the same, being up't road from me. A lot of them are just top 40 pop, and a good number Asian language and music stations. You can gget a digi radio for about £35 from Asda, though, mate.

I doubt DAB radio will vanish. They'll just adapt.

Well, DAB+ is meant to be much better - it's just a matter of when it'll get adopted here.

Tonight on digi was a very nice adaptation of The Owl Service. Very atmospheric. I just wish it were possible to record such things.
