Just got my package from Ash Tree Press, of Shades of Darkness, At Ease With the Dead, Acquainted With the Night, and Shadows and Silence.

As I know Barbara frequents this board, I just wanted to thank her and Christopher for the excellent speed and superb customer service.

The books look terrific. The TOCs are to die for, and I'm chomping at the bit to begin on the stories. I can't believe I never picked these up before...

Glad they arrived safely, Steve, and hope you enjoy the books. Lots of great reading in those pages, even if I do say so myself as shouldn't.

I think, Stephen, you'll find you're "champing at the bit" as chomping is a bit different ;-)

You'll probably also find that I'm being pedantic.

Regardless of what you do to that bit, you're right; the series is an excellent one. You'll find such tales in there to make you despair of ever writing a word again. How could anyone compete?

I'd deep-throat the bit if it would make me a better writer. :-)

Can I start a campaign to get an edit button installed?

What? And eliminate 90% of Joel's material?

Steve, you have some great reading ahead of you! I'm just starting Shades of Darkness myself. Have you got the first Ash-Tree antho, Midnight Never Comes?

I finished Shades of Darkness over the weekend, and it definitely belongs on my best of '08 list. I was particularly impressed by Guenther Primig's 'Smugglers', Frances Oliver's 'The King of Majorca', Simon Strantzas' 'Under the Overpass' and Glen Hirsberg's 'Esmeralda', and there are some very good stories by Ian Rogers, Melanie Tem, Mark Samuels, Gary McMahon, Joel Lane, and Barbara Roden.

Thanks, Alan. I too am reading the book, albeit slowly, but I agree, there's some wonderful stuff inside.

Huw, no I haven't got Midnight Never Comes, alas. I presumed that title was long out of print. I'm looking forward to these books. I've enjoyed the odd couple of All Hallows I've read, so I'm assuming the stories are in the same vein.
