There's more - and more sad - footage of this gig elsewhere. He sounds ok, it just feels like we're watching someone having problems... I was going to say something about him joining the Mighty Boosh initially but it doesn't feel tasteful; http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LieYeCudbQ8&feature=related |

Yeah, poor Joaquim, with his millions. I suspect it's some kind of joke, anyway. |

But doesn't this show millions/money does nothing for us? You liked The Great Gatsby I thought, and that was a story. |

This is -- and I say this as probably a bigger fan of hip hop than most people on the board -- no worse than most other live rap footage you'll find. The biggest flaw is that it was recorded with what appears to be a cellphone camera. |

It was perhaps the shots I didn't include - his falling rom the stage, 'quitting' acting - that were the really painful to watch. |

A tangent of sorts, but I recently saw RUNNING ON EMPTY, starring River... not only was River such an immense actor... or maybe I was in a vulnerable spot... but that movie tears your heart out... I wasn't crying, no, I wasn't crying... but I might have sniffled a little.... |

That's my favourite film, Craig. I find it acutely distressing to watch, for a number of reasons. River Phoenix is achingly good in it, and so are Judd Hirsch and Christine Lahti as his parents. It says so much about that generation and the desperation of the American left. Did you know that the unnamed organisation the parents belong to was real, and was called the Weather Underground? |

Running on Empty is an excellent film. Have you seen Dogfight, Joel? |

You know, Joel, the names "Bill Ayers" and "Bernadine Dorn" became household names last year, because of the election and Obama's relationships with them... and what very little I know, I was thinking those two were the models for Hirsch's and Lahti's characters... was it so?... Judd Hirsch was so good in this film too, that it's amazing he never fully crossed over into serious acting, as a constant film actor in serious roles. I wonder why that is?... It is a movie not for the feint of heart. You can imagine how I felt, putting it on, expecting a light-hearted, maybe occasionally funny action-er! |

I rewatched Running On Empty only last week - it's a brilliant, brilliant film. Pheonix was a real talent, wasn't he? Huw - Dogfight is terrific. Seen that one a few times, too. |

Thought you'd be a fan of Dogfight, Zed. Phoenix and Lili Taylor were superb in it. I remember loving the folk music soundtrack, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. |

Yep. I love Lili Taylor. She has a face I can't stop watching when it's on screen. Does that make sense? Judy Davis has the same quality. Also, Hilary Swank and Rachel Griffiths. An interesting and unconventional beauty. |

Ha! Zed - when you said this I had the niggly thought 'Heck, he's right!' Maybe you were; http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090128/ten-rap-you-must-me-joking-joaquin-5f8abb3. html The Bastard. Absoluteley hilarious, though. |

Is that an obscure linguistic joke I don't get, or did the typo of "me" for "be" really make it into the URL, the header, and the article's headline? |

I love Lili Taylor too.. Always wanted to cast her in something. This whole Pheonix thing really is sad. Joke or no joke (and I really hope it is a joke). I still miss River... |

Joaquin's best film is 'We Own The Night'. It's reminescent of hardboiled 70's cop films. It reminds me of Ed McBain at his best. |

What about parenthood. ;) Back when he was "LEAF" I loved that paper bag he carried around. It was porn he had in there, right? |

Hated GLADIATOR. Loved PARENTHOOD. (Hey Weber - isn't there some joke or pun out there already, or maybe one you can come up with - you know, it ends, "... but he was gladiator"?...) |
