I want to buy a copy of the French magazine Galaxies SF (because I'm in it) but my French involves me talking loudly and waving my arms a lot.

Does anybody here speak (or rather, write) French well enough so I can send a message buying the magazine and not the office pot plants or something?

How do I say: "Please send me a single copy of Issue two of Galaxies SF. My address is: xxxxx. Many thanks... Steve."?

Anyone?

I usually use online translation software for this sort of thing. It's not perfect, of course, but if the note is short and simple I thing the room for error is minimized.

Don't listen to Hubert, Steve. He's trying to get you to propose marriage to the editor.

Er, if you're in the mag, shouldn't you get a copy anyway?

Ha, thanks all (Le thanking-mucho, M. Fry)...

Shouldn't I get a copy? You'd think so, eh, though I don't know how to complain either. Maybe they do things differently on the continent.

Still, I collect a couple of copies of anything I'm in so if one shows up I'll not worry. And it is a kick to be translated into French...

I've wanted to be for a long while. I'd love a story of mine to be made into a french film, too. Any foreign langauge, actually.

Some people might claim that my stories already are in a foreign language...

Hubert's pretty close to what my second-language-French tells me it should be. Although I must point out you made a few errors in the subject line.

Oh, did I? Out of interest, what should the subject line be?

If I'm not mistaken, it should be:

"Parlez-vous français?"

Languages don't take capitals in French; the soft 'c' needs to be represented with a dangly bit (I don't know the word for it in English); and the verb-subject inversion for a sentence requires a hyphen.

Dangly bit: cedilla.

Thanks, Niki. In French it's a cedille, so that makes sense.
