Huw recommended this on another thread, and I've just seen his brilliant [REC] today, so in case anyone's interested Balaguero's DARKNESS is on BBC1 tomorrow night (Saturday) at 11-50pm

It may be the shortened version, but it's still a good film.

Yeah, apparently the original version is a lot longer than the one released. It's impossible to find, though.

I've only seen the theatrical version, and enjoyed it...but it *felt* like some scenes had been taken out - and this was before I even knew about the above.

I think the tv version is the original cut, isn't it? It appears to be in a 100-minute slot. Jaume's original cut runs 102 minutes theatrically, as I understand. It was then cut to 88 minutes in America, and that was the version released to cinemas here. While the film has problems, the long one is certainly the one to watch.

Oh, I didn't like the version I saw. A nice sort of texture but nothing worth writing home about to be brutally blunt.

I really enjoyed this.

It showed that a well placed silouhette where it shouldn't be is far scarier than any amount of blood and gore.

I agree. Those gaunt old priest-type people (can't recall exactly who they were right now) gave me really gave me the shivers.

I really want to see [Rec]...

Thanks John - I started to watch it, got half way through and got so nervous that I switched off the telly and went to bed. I usually walk around the house to get something, in complete darkness, most nights - not that night. Eventually, I'll watch it all the way through.

Apparently [Rec], which has yet to debut in any form in the U.S., has already undergone the indignity of an American remake. The new film, made by the "POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES" people, is set to premiere in US theaters later this year. It's called QUARANTINE. The trailer is here:
