Watched the first episode of Pushing Daisies last night. Hero can bring people back to life and teams up with a private investigator to use his gift to solve murders.

Way more quirky than it sounds with a kind of day-glo Addams Family feel to proceedings. Comes across as a modernday fairy tale. But the very stylings that make it stand out -- whimisical voiceover, an Edward Scissorhands style romance ("Hold me." "I can't.") etc actually grated on me a little. Have to see how it develops and how my tolerance for its tweeness holds up.

One thing I like: ITV are running it in a mainstream slot. Could bode well for Michael Grade's new direction. Fewer Nicki French adaptations and more quality.

It looked stunning, and felt fresh. Have recorded it. Was it kid friendly? I think mine would love it.

I thought this was quite good - the Addams Family/early Tim Burton feel is down to the director being none other than Barry Sonnenfeld.

It made my guts bleed!

Bring back the coliseums already.

We all know that's what we want. People are always saying it. "How long before we have the coliseums on TV?"
And they have that sort of disapproving face on that says "Hurry up with the coliseums already."

That's how I read it.

I loved the Tim Burton feel to this. I've got the video set for the rest of the series.

I saw Sonnenfeld directed episode 1. Is he doing the rest of the series?

Sonnenfeld was kicked off the show after episode two for spending too much money. His absence isn't really noticeable, though.

I quite like this show, as well, from the hyper-real colours, to the Burtonesque (for lack a better word) qualities. And pie!

I preferred it to Bryan Fuller's other effort 'Dead Like Me' which everyone liked & I didn't

I stopped watching after ep.2 - there doesn't seem anywhere they can go with this concept.

This is the first time I've quite liked Anna Friel

I disliked "Dead Like Me" as well. Well, dislike is a strong word, but I wasn't a big fan.

"Pushing Daisies" is great, though, and worth a second look . . . but I can understand not liking it if you no longer have a heart.

Yeah, I quite adore Mandy Patinkin, but "Dead Like Me" didn't really move me much.

I remember Friel in a crap thing called The Tribe a few years back. An unforgettable shot of her 'undercarriage' there was, in it, though.
Pushing Daisies (pushing them what - over? Down?) is great.

Freil is a lovely looking lass, I've always thought. Shite actress, though. :-)

Tony - did you know the viewing figures for The Tribe plummeted once Friel's nude scene was over?

HA! Mine certainly did - I was 'busy' after her bit.
What a stupid programme that play was. Actually - Poliakov sucks. There's something about his work that leaves me feeling so flat and infuriated. It's lousy but with this veneer that kids you it's ok.
