Anyone know what happened last week? Just the bare bones (ahem) will suffice.

Michelle's been following it but missed it last week. Did she miss any major plot points?

Dexter split with Rita and had sex with the woman from Hustle; he also erased the tapes showing him cleaning up blood on his boat in the harbour under surveilance.

And Doakes found out Dexter's not an addict and now wans to know what secret Dexter might have that's so bad you'd pretend to be an addict to cover it up.

And Angel Batista found discovered that the cop in charge of the investigation is actually a T2000 unit sent back from the future to kill Laguerta. UNfortunately he found this out only seconds before it impaled him on a metal spike.

Apparently LasaGuerta in the future would destroy the T2000's creator's parents marriage by sleeping with his dad.

Also in a new sub plot, giant flying saucers appeared over major landmarks in cities all over the world. Only new guest stars Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum could save the day for president wotsit Bridges

Actually, genuinely, Gary, Dexter killed a copycat killer, because he feared a big Fed task force would be brought in, thus making it liklier he'd be caught.

Hope Michelle's enjoying.

I had to sit through some of EMMERDALE the other night. I fell asleep and woke up in the middle of Coronation Street. Didn't notice it was a different show. How gloomy and soul destroying. You know, I think I believe that -- contentious statement ahead -- pornography has more to offer inthe way of hope to the imaginative life of the viewer than soap operas.

Though of course I'd have to define pornography to make my argument stick, which I can't. Light erotica, how's that?

Hey, Dan Simmons was on Radio 4 today. Talking about his new novel, DROOD. Sounded intriguing. Some feud between Dickens and Wilkie Collins, based on the fact that Dickens thought THE MOONSTONE was crap, decided to write the ultimate mystery novel, which he did in a strange sort of way . . .

Let's talk about kitten pies. If you put on plenty of brown sauce, they're palatable, but be careful not to serve it to a guest with donkey's eyeballs. That's nasty. In fact, if you have a guest who has donkey's eyeballs, you're best off finding new friends. It's frankly embarrassing, especially in pubs: folk keep looking at you - yes, you; never the friend. Carrots are nice with kitten pie, but if your friend is with you, then it's best not to serve them. You know what asses are like with that vegetable. Far too tempting for them. I wish Emmerdale was on.

My dog used to play tennis with Bjorn Lendl, you know. Great champion, him. Lendl was crap, though. Couldn't ever return the ball properly: folk used to say to him that on account of his privileged education, he should be better at such a MC sport. The kicker was this: "He didn't know he was Bjorn." But I always had time for him. He made a right racket some nights though, especially after coming home from the pub. But the rackets had all the strings in the wrong places, so we couldn't sell them. Ebay customers get a tad violent about things like that. Their protesting emails zing in like flung razors. His wife, Annette, was nice, though...okay, I'll avoid that pun. God, I'm bored. I wish Coronation Street was on.

Anyway, I'm not bored - I'm proscrastinating. There are 27,000 words lurking on this hard drive I've a sneaking suspicion aren't quite the polished gems I took them for when I wrote them. I see tears and expletives in my very near future ...

Returning briefly to the origianl thread, wasn't dexter good last night?

the situation with Doakes is now at crisis point and the layers of meaning in that last line at Lila's apartment...

Wow!!!

Brilliant show and probably the best thing on at the moment (except for Home and Away)

dexter just keeps getting better. I can't think of any other programme that can get me as worked up about the fates of the characters as this.

It seems a shame that they're going to have to finish the Doakes storyline now. There doesn't seem to be any way of keeping both characters in the programme after this weeks show.

As is series four and five . . .

I enjoyed it. I was a bit disappointed that SPOILER Doakes's reutation wasn't redeemed, but that gave it something of an edge, I think, that it wasn't. The Paris hop didn't work. But I enjoyed it very much.

Certainly a wise decision not to film the second book . . .

I watched first episode of THE MENTALIST last night. Appropriately directed by a bloke whose surname was Nutter. Probably a bit too slick for its own good right now, but I'll stick with it a while.

And THE WIRE starts on BBC2 on Monday night, from series one, all the way through. But it's on nightly, I hear, which is probably too much for me.

Uh, in a little voice, I'll also mention Robin Hoody's on tomorrow evening too . . .
