Just watched this and thought it was very good indeed. Colin Farrell has never been better, Brendan Gleason was immense (as usual), and Ralph Feines was hilarious as an oddly noble mob boss. Funny, violent, poignant, and a bit daft. Lovely stuff. I bet Craig hated it. |

I really liked this, although it took me a couple of watches to be sure. |

I've not seen it yet. I'm worried I'd not like it, but others have recommended it, so... who the hell knows?... An odd Brit movie I just saw and liked, completely off topic, but so the f what... HAPPY-GO-LUCKY. Did I mention I liked ROCKNROLLA a lot too?... Just a bunch of Brit movies. IN BRUGES is Brit too, right?... |

I quite liked In Bruges, despite (as Gary pointed out) its daftness. In fact, I probably liked it because of its daftness. Any film with Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell karate-chopping midgets can't be bad... |

I do think that the writer/director has spent a bit of time in Belgium because of a hilarious detail that several of my expat non-belgian colleagues immediately recognised: the weapons dealer using the word "alcove" and asking whether it was the good word. Indeed, over here the English if many people is pretty good but we also sometimes get it slightly wrong, and we're typically eager to polish our foreign language skills. |

It was my favourite film of last year. Good acting - great script. |

That scene with the midget was the funniest thing I've seen in years...I had a fit of the giggles. |

Adore this film which managed to be very funny but also as black as night with a compassionate soul. It's a lot more complex than I thought it was going to be. The midget actor is also in a beautiful film called The Station Agent, which I highly recommend also. |

I thought it was a great film, quite slow in places but funny, very violent and quite gruesome. The midget actor had the best part though, he was brilliant. |

Yes, THE STATION AGENT is really superb. Such a quiet, thoughtful, intelligent film, touching but not mawkish, quite anti-sentimental at heart. IN BRUGES is not in the same class, but it's very funny, grim and sardonic. Jon, the actor in question is actually a dwarf, not a midget. These are not relative or idiomatic terms: the two physical conditions are quite different. Not that it matters. He's a very fine actor, as THE STATION AGENT in particular shows. |

Gary, this reminds me of a game we used to play in our family as kids. It involved having several categories - country, animal, food, boy's name, girl's name, etc. - then someone picks a letter at random and the first one to come up with a correct answer in all categories beginning with that letter wins. Our grandparents (on my dad's side) visited us when we lived in Germany, and we ended up playing this game one night. In one round of the game the letter that came up was 'e', and a couple of minutes into it, my grandad proudly announced that he'd won. When reading his answer for the category of 'animal', he said 'elf'. We thought he was having a joke, but he stared at us in complete seriousness and said 'yes, elf - it's a very rare animal.' |
