Name a horror film trilogy where the third film follows the rules set down in Scream 3 - except for the Scream trilogy...

What exactly are the rules laid down in SCREAM 3, Weber? I didn't see the film.

They were the rules by which (allegedly) the third part of a horror film trilogy will always run.

My problem with them is that they only seem to apply to that one movie... which kind of defeats the object of the piece.

Are there many trilogies? Most pictures I can think of made it to at least Part IV:

Nightmare on Elm Street (8)
Friday the 13th (11)
Halloween (8)
The Omen (4)
Phantasm (4)
Hellraiser (6)
The Blind Dead (4)
Jaws (4 at least)
Night of the Living Dead (5)
Hammer Dracula (7)
Hammer Frankenstein (7)
Universal Frankenstein (6 with the name in the title)
Universal Dracula (4 with the name in the title)

This list does not include Charles Band's innumerable Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, Troll & Leprachaun series, none of which I've seen but none of which are trilogies I don't think.

There are 3 Reanimators, 3 Evil Deads, 3 Final Destinations, 3 Original 'The Fly', & possibly 3 Count Yorgas if you include the ultra-rare 'Deathmaster'. I don't think any of these follow any rules, though

Didn't CAMP SLEEPAWAY reach into four films?... Whatever that film was called. And that one was slasher, very SCREAM-like.

SCREAM 3 I remember disliking intensely, though I can't remember why exactly, my brain has excised it since I first saw it in the theatre. I remember in particular a scene where they all crowd in to watch a video-tape of the chick from WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE give them a clue... a scene that particularly made me cringe....

... but the biggest bit I've gleaned from all this is... John, there was a Count Yorga 3?!? And nobody told me?!? I must go find this immediately!!!!

Ha! I KNEW that would stimulate someone's trash-film taste buds. Apparently DEATHMASTER has Yorga leading a hippie commune. I've seen the poster but never the film.

Wow, you've really stimulated a memory for me, John... but I can't recall if it's from one of the first two COUNT YORGAs or not... no, wait, not the second one, that I remember... the family getting attacked, pretty chilling....

I have this fading memory of seeing on TV, *long* ago, the opening to a COUNT YORGA movie, where a coffin washes up on the beach, and some hippie beach bum or something is there waiting, and he picks it up in his like El Camino or something, maybe a pick-up truck, loading it matter-of-factly and taking it somewhere....

... Or maybe this is the first one?... gosh, it's been a while....

Better tell us Weber. I can't hold this sniper rifle up much longer.

I really like what you've done with your home, by the way.

As quoted on Wikipedia

A signature device, started in Scream and continued in Scream 2 and Scream 3, was the typical "rules" for that type of horror movie being stated by the characters. In Scream 3, Sidney, Dewey, Gale and Randy's sister (Heather Matarazzo), watch a video made by Randy (Jamie Kennedy, in a cameo role) before his death in Scream 2; he states that if the third movie is just another sequel, then the standard rules for a sequel (given in Scream 2) apply. However, "If you find yourself dealing with an unexpected backstory, and a preponderance of exposition, then the sequel rules do not apply. Because you are not dealing with a sequel, you are dealing with the concluding chapter of a trilogy." The rules for the final concluding chapter of a trilogy are different:

"You've got a killer who’s gonna be superhuman. Stabbing him won’t work, shooting him won’t work. Basically in the third one, you gotta cryogenically freeze his head, decapitate him, or blow him up."
"Anyone, including the main character, can die. This means you, Sid."
"The past will come back to bite you in the ass. Whatever you think you know about the past, forget it. The past is not at rest! Any sins you think were committed in the past are about to break out and destroy you."
"Basically... In the third movie? All bets are off."

I class the Omen as a trilogy, I just ignore the fact that the 4th one exists.

I wondered why the wall paper looked so darn innocent.
Now, if you'd like to turn around and look at that clocktower, I've got a quiz for you...

Now, Kiefer Sutherland! Now!
