Just been to see this but it's been on the 'to watch' list for a while.

A marvellous, funny, very very sweet film that Tony would certainly love, especially as he liked 'Be Kind Rewind' and this has a similar idea which is used in a much better way.

Two young lads in early 1980s Britain decide to make their own Rambo movie for the programme 'Screen Test' (you either remember it or you don't). But there's so much more to this, including the best depiction of the early 1980s I've seen, mainly because it's not intrusive, the fashions aren't over the top and the music isn't in your face every two minutes (Ashes to Ashes anyone?). There's even a running gag about a French exchange student that's so spot on it's painfully funny. Seriously recommended to anyone who was a youngster at the time and did things like attaching a full-sized model of a guide dog to a kite and sending it shooting through the top floor of the science building at school. I know I did and this is the only film that has ever made me feel nostalgic for those carefree troublemaking days when I was 12.

John; you forget to mention the atmosphere, the texture of this film, one that is often more so than the Potters and the like. Mind you, no other reviewer has either. I've just seen it today and absolutely loved it. A magic, 'good' film that leaves you with more than when you went in, gives you several gifts for your life.
Surprising moving bit; in the front row were a bunch of guys with severe special needs and disabilities (they kept making random noises and hated the films scarecrow). When a certain mum in the film stands up to someone this bloke starts clapping. Magic.

I knew you'd love it Tony. I thought it captured the essence of being a schoolkid in the eighties better than anything I've seen.

I really wanted to see this in the festival, but missed the screening.

Can't wait for the release!

Saw it yesterday and enjoyed a lot. Not perfect by a long shot, but it had some really great moments. Alas, Eric Sykes was woefully underused.
