A horror moment on 'Deal or No Deal' this afternoon. Banker rings Noel to say he was eating his own scabs and pus. No joke.

Would you rather...

Eat scabs, or pus?

Me, I'd pick scabs - probably less actual taste involved.

Being a Banker, did he find the scabs crunchy?

This is actually a true story of yesterday's edition of 'Deal or No Deal' on Channel 4 where the generic Banker rang up Noel Edmunds on the show's old-fashioned telephone and Noel reported that he Banker had just told Noel that he wa eating his own scabs. Later, when enticed by one of the contestants (via Noel), the Banker said he was eating those scabs that had pus on them (as reported by Noel).
This is a high point of gut-wrenching Horror on family tea-time TV?

It's certainly revolting. I should have preferred not to have seen the title of the thread.

Apologies. It is remarkably shocking, and I feel it is interesting because the public are often called 'unshockable' these days. And I for one deal in Horror Art and am shocked/revolted by this.

Are you shocked by the scabs and pus-eating, Des, or shocked by its context - in a sort of anodyne tea-time TV show?

Oddly, as I (in my mind) place it in other contexts that would seem to be inappropriate - it loses its horror value altogether. For example: imagine the same joke, now as a joke moment on a kids' TV show, like Nickelodeon's "ICarly" - the concept (not the act) of the eating of scabs and pus seems to be innocuously funny when it's, say, kids kidding around about it.

Bankers eating scabs and pus is the thing of madness, even as a joke. Kids eating scabs and pus is just inappropriate.

I think you're right, Craig. It is interesting tha Bankers have become whipping-posts because of the Crunch and it seemed satirically apt that, during some ostensibly rubbishy, anodyne - but often statistically and psychologically intriguing - gameshow of luck, there should emerge this moment of pure revolting reaction to the world's encroaching meltdown. As if families needed their noses rubbed in the physical seeping crunchiness itself. Escapism can no longer work...
Even Horror creativity itself pales into insipidity when faced with a silly facile childish joke from the playground injected like a foreign virus into the lounges and parlours of the watching masses for whom the penny still hasn't dropped.

I don't get this at all. What's so shocking? I've tasted my own semen. Is that shocking? I'd like to think not.

It was on a woman's tongue.

(Blimey, I'm worse sober than I am when I'm drunk).

Joel, that small jar must've arrived safely through the post, then...

Did you just equate your semen with scabs and pus?

Not really. You just need to be a reasonable shot. You've got to be careful though or it really will send you blind
