I just read that several supermarket chains have decided in infinite wisdom to sell the new Manic Street Preachers album in a 'bag' so the artwork doesn't potentially offend shoppers. This is absurd, take a look at the artwork and you tell me if even the most limp person in the world could be offended by it! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8050110.stm This has nothing to do with the Manics (who I personally respect as musicians, but only occasionally find engaging) but I am flabbergasted at this. gcw |

Oh my Lord! I'm building a Wicker Man right now. We must cleanse the earth of these heathens! Seriously, can they also do the same with The Daily Mail so I don't have to read its hatred inducing, racism encouraging fucking shit headlines every-time I walk past the newspaper section. |

Actually, it might be a better idea to seal the Daily Mail's writers and editors in plastic bags. No more air- no more staff- NO MORE DAILY MAIL! Think of all the plastic bags we'd save. You've got to think of the environment these days, y'know. |

For some reason I'm picturing that chilling J.K. Potter illustration of Ramsey's In The Bag. |

Add my "Amen!" to yours, Jon. And can we seal up the News of the World's editors and writers too? |

Two Amens! I can almost start a Gospel Choir. How about it? I think that most tabloids should be on the top shelf out of the reach of children. |

Yeah, it will actually do The Manics' sales some good, but I don't see how such an innocious cover could cause offence. How would they get on the the cover of The Holy Bible album these days? gcw |

Jenny Saville is an amazing artist- have you seen her other stuff?- she did a similar image with a woman as well- stunning (and sometimes disturbing) painter she is. |

I doubt the Manics need the publicity - I saw them on Jools Holland and they simply love the artist (who did the cover free of charge). I can see why the image might disturb some silly folk as it looks like a battered child. Doesn't disturb me: I think it's a terrific painting. But I can see how someone with delicate sensibilities might not agree with me. Personaly I'm more disturbed by the money, guns and pussies in gangsta rap videos. |
