EVERYBODY likes Zombies. Which means, of course, you'll want to own the forthcoming Black Dog & Leventhal anthology entitled, with pleasing simplicity, ZOMBIES. By the weirdest coincidence, I've just signed contracts agreeing inclusion of my own story, "Lie Still, Sleep Becalmed", in this excellent antho (which will be edited by the Skipper himself, John Skipp). Wahey!

Congrats, Steve. Hope your tale stomps along with the best of them.

Zombies are very, very popular at the moment, for reasons I can't quite account for. There didn't used to be so many zombie tales about, I'm sure.

Nice one, Steve. Looks like there should be a fantastic lineup for this anthology. Congratulations.

Mark, it's obvious to me why zombie and apocalyptic fiction are so popular at the minute - the world feels poised on the edge of some kind of apocalypse, and people are drawn to this kind of entertainment.

Why thank you, kind people. I've been going round all morning declaiming (in an "Herge's Adventures of Tintin!" voice) "ZOMBIIIIIEEESSSS." Imagine how much fun I am to live with right now.

Have zombies ever been unpopular? They're quite deathless, you see.

The preponderance of zombies simply means the zombie apocalypse is looming. Saturating popular culture with the undead is kind of a riff on the old public information films, preparing us for what's to come without arousing undue panic. Who's gonna run around screaming 'We're all gonna die!' when they're having too much fun shuffling around mumbling 'Braaaiiiiins'?

No, it's just because we're now between footbal seasons.

I have visions of a Newcastle United-turned-zombies doggedly trying to gain promotion back to the Premiership, using Kevin Keegan's head as a football.

And then I read Gary's post.

I've been awake 36 hours now. Get the euphoria stage next, then come midnight I should be looking for things I'm already holding, followed by the zombie shuffle...
