For those of you who don't know, Amanda Palmer is the singer of the "Brechtian punk cabaret" duo The Dresden Dolls. Her debut solo album, "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?", was released last year and now she's collaborated with Neil Gaiman on a gorgeously gruesome photo book of her death:

I'm currently rewatching the entire run of TWIN PEAKS, so my thoughts are with the other ex-Palmer... but these pics look nice. Do they remind anyone else of Ginger's school project in GINGER SNAPS?

You're right Steve - although I think Ginger used more blood in hers. I think Ginger Snaps is one of the best werewolf films I've ever seen. it's definitely the creepiest atmosphere I can think of in that particular sub-genre.

I have both the Dolls' CDs, Niki! I didn't know Palmer had a solo album - thanks for alerting me to that.

Steve, I have long been contemplating a rewatch of the whole Twin Peaks series. Last time I watched it was after taping it off Japanese television (it was huge in Japan) back in the early nineties. I watched it with a couple of fellow Peakies, and large quantities of cherry pie and damn fine coffee were consumed (the latter blacker than midnight on a moonless night, naturally).

I got the Twin Peaks DVD gold box set for Christmas, so I watched the whole run again then. And had to choose my bestest of my clamoring best friends to lend it to first. And when it was first on we had Twin Peaks parties with pie and coffee - hooray total geeky fandom!

Huw: If you're a Dolls/Amanda fan, don't miss the video series she did for the solo CD:

And it sounds like I'll have to see Ginger Snaps. I was so disappointed in Blood and Chocolate and Dog Soldiers I rather despaired of werewolf films and stopped watching them.

GINGER SNAPS was good, wasn't it? Smart as you like. Shame about the sequels... I've just started Season 2 of TWIN PEAKS, and I'd forgotten how keen Lynch is to throw you back in at the deep end: Ray Wise singing "Get Happy" is among *the* most disturbing things...

I quite enjoyed Ginger Snaps 2. It had more going for it than a lot of sequels. Ginger Snaps Back was poor though. I'm not sure if the problem was the acting or the writing, the girls were just far too modern for the setting of the story and as a result the whole thing fell flat, IMHO.

Agreed, Weber - Snaps Back was by far the poorer of the two.

Ah - Twin Peaks. First shown when I was at university and in my drinking beer/writing comedy sketches /hanging off firescapes to avoid angry boyfriends phase and thus there wasn't much time for TV. One of my group of outre individuals used to insist on watching it though, and then we used to derive much amusement from getting him to try and summarise it in the pub when he eventually got there.

Now of course that I am in my wine drinking / writing horror stories / avoiding angry husbands phase I now have the odd moment free and I recently borrowed the rather splendid Twin Peaks gold box set. Having consumed it in four episode blocks so that I'm nearly at the end I am now filled with the urge to do a Welsh equivalent

Good grief! That Coffin Joe set looks marvellous! Nine movies, some of them with titles that are worth the admission price alone.

(I appreciate some RCMB members might not enthuse quite so much over Strange Hostel Of Naked Pleasures, Hellish Flesh, or Hallucinations Of A Deranged Mind but I'm already reaching for my credit card.)

I also ordered "Embodiment of Evil", which is due out this month.

I've wanted to see a Coffin Joe film since I was 14. can't wait.

Well the three I've seen are seriously strange heady, weird nonsense that I normally wouldn't recommend to anyone. The colour sequence in Awakening of the Beast is a melange of Eastmancolor-photographed ladies' bottoms with faces painted on them and scenes of torture and murder all depicted with insane glee.

You'll love them!

Steve - now there's a tempting offer! Maybe we could get a grant from the Welsh Arts Academy, a bit of cash from S4C, promise to give Plaid Cymru a mention and get a bit of money off them as well, get Charlotte Church to sing a Julee Cruise-type theme song etc etc.

I can see the BAFTAS rolling in now
