I'm going to have to drool over everyones' photos this year. You can have photo of rocks and sand from me but that could be a good thing.

I'm going to Massechussets with Richard Gavin and Ian Rogers in a month. That should be fun, no? Laird Barron will be there, too, come to think...

We'll do a trip with the camper through northern, atlantic side Spain. And I do plan to visit a few select Rioja wineries!

Perth, Western Australia. It's for work, but will have a few free days to look around. Not really a holiday, close enough for now!

We'll definitely stop by San Sebastian. And visit the Guggenheim in Bilbao. And continue along until Galicia and back.

I've crammed a lot of travel into the past 5 years - India, Australia, Thailand, Mexico, Germany, Sharm-el-Sheikh, the Philippines, Czech Republic, Hawaii, Norway, Ukraine and Cyprus. And most of the continental US.

I'm pretty burnt out on travel right now (and the panic attacks when I fly), so I'm sticking to driveable places for a while. I do love my road trips - just me, my car, my new sound system (fingers crossed), my voodoo doll and the rolling English hills.

I'm not the man to ask, Hubert. Up until now it has always been in August, because either Jenny was teaching or our son or daughter was at school, or a combination of all that. We think August is fine, but it's too hot for some - mid-30s are common.

Thanks, Ramsey. I think I might pop over to Crete or Hydra later this year. I'm currently in love with the mediterranean area, which I've never visited, so my expectations are great.

We've become very fond of Georgiopoulis in Crete. Just beware of the Fereniki Hotel and all its other properties - the Foudoulis Apartments and others...

Tourist trap? I expect it'll be hard to find ANYTHING unconnected with the tourist trade there. Eventually I'd like to find me a small island with a nice beach - totally devoid of tourists, if that is possible.

As someone who has lived in Malta throughout my childhood, I actually recommend visiting the Mediterranean in early June or mid September. As Ramsey says, the middle summer months are just scorching hot, in the mid 30's! Sometimes more.

Not so much a tourist trap as tourist crap - the worst Greek accommodation we've ever stayed in (actually, the only bad experience we've ever had with accommodation there). Here are other people's reports on the Fereniki and the Foudoulis (misprinted as Foundoulis). Believe the bad ones and suspect the others. On the other hand, the Deep Blue Sea apartments are delightful.

And if you do go to Crete and go sailing, be wary of picking up any guy from the water who seems preoccupied with the number 11 . . .

"And if you do go to Crete and go sailing, be wary of picking up any guy from the water who seems preoccupied with the number 11 . . ."

Especially if he's partial to hiding blowtorches in his swimming trunks.

I'm off to Chicago the first week of July for a holiday. I plan on checking out some blues clubs, like Buddy Guy's, and going to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
