It's pretty easy. You have to trap it in a wide circle first and then home in on it.

No, it's a cat, not a dog. Nothing's too painful for cats, IMP(sychopathic)O.

Gary! I'm a huuuuuuuge cat fan - and I've just gone off you completely!

Strangely enough, we're having to do this for real at the moment. Our elderly moggie is going quite senile and keeps sitting in the middle of the road. We're constantly trying to usher him back onto the pavement! I think I'd better keep trying this puzzle - it might help me with the real thing!

I can see a cat schism approaching of a similar magnitude to the chav schism of 2004. Lines being drawn. Alliances and feuds starting. The paws before the battle commences and people let their felines rule their judgement.

How dare you Mr Fry. How very dare you.

Cat's are the most beautiful and loving pets you can have. Plus they're more independant so you don't have to look after them 24 hours a day and take them for walks. You open the back door and let them roam.

Dogs are stupid and high maintenance pets. Cats are far more intelligent (one of the reasons they are more difficult to train, they're too clever to sit up and do tricks just because you want them to. they train you to do tricks for them first...)

I have to pledge my allegiance with the dog brigade.

Much as I agree with Weber's comments on the differences between dogs and cats, that's exactly the reason I prefer the canine species.

I much prefer docile devotion to arch manipulation in a relationship. Hence my preference for dogs. :-)

I have no love for either, I'm afraid. cats shit all over my lawn and dogs bark all day and night.

And why do most owners feel the need to anthropormorpise these smelly beasts? They are simply dumb animals acting on instinct.

You open the back door and let them roam....and shit in a neighbours garden.

I throw rocks at them when I see one in my garden. It's good sport.

That seems to suggest that people can only love what is fundamentally human. A surprisingly anthropocentric view from a misanthrope. Contradiction abounds.

Like the man says, I'm a walking contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction.

And all I'm suggesting is that people are insane for assigning dumb animals with human traits. (I wish there was a bared-bottom smiley)

In the absence of their peers and in the company of only people, they're attempting to ingratiate themselves with the only proximate life-form thereabouts worth the effort.

Nah, there's no argument here at all - cats are far better than humans (and dogs). Full stop. No question. My best friends have always been cats (hmmm, just wondering now if that says something about me ...? )

We tend to judge pets by their appearance and what their movements convey to us, filling in the gaps with our projections regarding what we would like them to feel.

Whereas with friends and lovers, we respond only to the inner reality of the person, whose needs and feelings we establish through thoughtful communication and sensitive analysis.

I don't like cats, they seem cold and cruel. I am always mystified by how people can love a cat.

I am a dog nan. A good dog is a pack animal and wants to be part of the family, or a partner to single person.

In return for being fed and looked after they offer love, devotion and a fierce loyalty.

They defend the home and their pack - Can't ask much more than that.

Cats are magnificent creatures. They may seem cool and aloof to the average dog lover, but once you get to know one, you have a friend for eternity. That said, I don't actually hate dogs. I quite like them, the bigger the better.

>>>.. but once you get to know one, you have a friend for eternity.<<<

That's what I was trying to say about cats, Hubert, with my silly comment about all my best friends being cats. Other peoples' cats seem cold and aloof, etc, but once you own one (or, rather, they own you!), you can see that they are just a faithful and loving as dogs.

I'm quite amazed this has stirred up such a heated discussion - is no-one going to stand up for hamsters, or guinea pigs, or gerbils ...?
