I just lost an argument with a work colleague. It wasn't anything important and, knowing he knows I'm a sarcastic sod, sent him an email saying "I'll prove I'm right, give me 10 minutes and check wikipedia". In response I got a long rambling email about how he'd checked Wiki and I was still wrong because it said this, that and the other blah blah blah and I actually had to explain the joke to him. I thought I'd got away from working with idiots when I left the warehouse. | ||

Do you need me to explain the joke to you Craig? I emailed my colleague saying "give me 10 minutes and check wikipedia". The "Give me 10 minutes" is to indicate that I need to do something before he checks. What might that something be when I've told him to check an encyclopedia which is maintained and updated by members of the public? I wasn't arguing wikipedia. I was admitting I was wrong in a sarcastic fashion... Do you understand that now? | ||

I get it but assumed at first that you'd meant to type "... and I'll check Wikipedia". For greater clarity, you could have said "Wait ten minutes, then check Wikipedia." Good joke though. | ||

At last, someone who gets it. I admit it works better the more extreme the claim, for example - Craig Schwartz has impeccable taste in movies, it's true, give me 10 minutes, then check wikipedia. or Shaun Hutson has just been awarded the nobel prize for literature, it's true , give me 10 etc. | ||
