My brainwashing of my kids continues, sort of. Last night Bill said he wanted to watch my old Frankenstein as he's studying the book at school. I was over the moon as I'm always wanting them to watch them. Well, we watched the first last night and tonight we watched Bride. I haven't watched it in years. What an absolute gem. It dares to be funny, tragic, touching and mad all in less than an hour and a half. It just totally lets rip, doesn't it? And the monster; by God, but there was one of the key figures from my youth, my patron saint. He felt like my heart, that guy. I didn't cry at the bit with the hermit like I did those first times (yes, during Fear on Friday) but it still registered, deeply, even if yes there is a whopping great gay subtext and a very visual BJ reference going on. Karloff was absolutely stunning, wasn't he? Anyways, the kids loved it (as did they the first), even if they did think Frankie was basically Father Jack Hackett. And to top it off - tonight, in bed, Bill is reading my old Denis Gifford horror movie book. It feels like looking at myself all those years back... |

That's great, Tony. Yeah, that is a great film. I'm actually a bigger fan of the first one. I love it's noir bleakness and sense of doom. I swear Bergman was inspired by some of its imagery, especially in the graveyard opening. |

I like the first, too. What was odd watching the dvd was how clear the sound was compared with the image; it was almost creepy. And I wasn't being homophobic; just sexophobic. |

Subtext can be a cop out. But then I sometimes think I'm chasing levels of fiction and film that just don't exist. Maybe this how it feels to know too much. Who's that laughing? |

I just want weird and intelligence and talent and originality to mesh. Is that too much? |

Karloff was magnificent. I'm a huge fan of these two films. That was a nice read, Tony. Lovely stuff, mate. |
