(cross posted to All Hallows)

Hi all,

Valentine's "The Nightfarers" could well become the best short story collection I read this year. I originally thought to write a review, but instead I improvised a concise unedited review video on youtube - just to see how it would work, and hopefully conveying my enthusiasm.
Well, should you be interested (and my awful accent will definitely get on your nerves), you can see it here:

Feel free to give bluntly honest feedback, here or on youtube.

I enjoyed that! Entertaining. I like the idea of doing video postings, of reviews, etc... I might steal that idea and do something.....

What kind of camera are you using, Tom, if I can ask?

Thanks for the comment. I thought it was a fun experiment.

I had borrowed a small webcam-like camera from work. It's a "Flip". When you want to transfer the clips, you just plug it in the usb port of the computer and the movies are available in divx format.

Quite a practical thing.

Having witten my own review of this book, I would be very interested in your thoughts on it, Tom. However, my computer's sound broke recently. Have you got a transcript of it?

Des, I will visit your site this evening to read it. I delayed reading it not to be "contaminated" by your thoughts.
Later more.

Cool idea Tom, with the video review.

It's too late for me, Tom. I've been contaminated by Des's thoughts since the mid-1980s. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

That's nothing. I've been contaminated by my own thoughts ever since I can remember.

Tom, I hope you 'enjoy' my review. But do you have a transcript of your own review so that I can return the favour?

Des, meanwhile I read your review and thought that it was spot-on. Your review renders the delightful subtlety and craftsmanship of the tales very well.
My own review was far more superficial - rather I hoped to articulate my enthusiasm in less than 10 minutes, and in an improvised way. So, no transcript, but a few elements that I drew attention on were:
- brief intro to Ex Occidente, and the nice production values
- stress how subtle the stories were, with as example The White Sea Company
- a brief quote illustrating the elegant prose
C'mon, fix that soundcard. I promise that I will unleash more of these ramblings to the world.
