Hi, all. I've checked in here on and off since you folks started the new board, and I recently decided it might be fun to join the party. My name is Laird Barron and I live in Washington State, USA in the bucolic countryside near Olympia. I do a bit of work in the horror/dark fantasy field and very much enjoy authors such as Ramsey Campbell, Joel Lane, and Don Tumasonis. As a matter of fact, it was my great pleasure to meet Ramsey at the 2007 World Fantasy Convention. Having grown up admiring his work, the honor of shaking his hand was long overdue. In any event, this seems a cozy den and I look forward to meeting and chatting with each of you in the days to come. Thanks to Gary Fry for the keys to the clubhouse. ;) | ||

Belated hello, Laird. Bet you're the only person here who's ever taken part in the Iditarod, an experience which I envy. The closest I've got to sled dogs is reading about them in various books about Arctic and Antarctic exploration and the early days of the RCMP, where they tend not to fare very well. | ||

Thank you, Joel. "Scratch" and "The Bootleg Heart" continue to haunt me. Did you also write one for TTA (story title escapes me) about a man who meets a woman at a theatre, exchanges numbers and then later finds out she died that evening? He goes to her mother's home where the girl is buried.... One of the most chilling stories I've read. | ||
