So, I wake today and fire up the ole comp, 6-30 in the morning, and find that all the work I've done this last week has vanished into the ether. When I check my back-up on memory-stick, I find that's gone too. Of course, I was tired out of my head when I finished the work the other day, so could, conceivably, have deleted it all in a fit of insanity. Whatever the reason, I wasn't too pleased. Crash one.

Then, midday, I'm driving with my girlfriend, slow down and indicate on a busy A road to make a right turn, and ten seconds later (told you it was busy) hear the screech of brakes behind me. I'd time enough to jig the car into the oncoming traffic lane a bit, but still got struck by a car travelling at high velocity. It flew by trailing bits of carbon fibre and wing-mirror and bounced up on a verge into a field. Michelle and I, a little shaken, got out and went to see how the David Coulthard of Kent was getting on. Turned out to be a couple of elder ladies. One of them was in major shock, the other only slightly less trembling. Anyway, got them sorted out and to the hospital. Kindly witness from behind stopped (they usually bugger off) and when I checked the car I was driving, I couldn't find a new scratch on it, despite the bump. Now I'm not a great driver, always try to drive within my limits, but despite my evasive manourvers there should have been some sign of collision.

Maybe that was the luck evening out for the day? One crash you lose, one crash you win . . .

Anyway.

Blimey - glad to hear you're both ok, Mark - as for winning & losing crashes, I think you picked the right one to win.

Gosh Mark. Fuckadilly. You should have a stress warning at the beginning of that post. I'm just bloody relieved you and Michelle are all right.
:-)

Yowser!

I know what you've been through, I've had three major crashes including one write-off. Take care, Mark-L.

Blimey, glad you're both ok, mate - sad to here about losing the files, though.

My advice: just go to back to bed and write the day off.

Sorry to hear about your day, Mark, but glad that you weren't hurt - that's the most important thing. ;-)

Thanks everyone. Dreary to have to report this: but I can't say any more now for legal reasons. But we're okay, thanks.

How did you lose the data on the memory stick? Unless you accidentally dropped it in a glass of water . . .

I've no idea. It's one of those weird wonders of the world, like why MP3 files break down halfway through tracks and iPods clear their memories for no apparent reason. But annoying, whatever the cause.

Suppose you went back to your computer now and instead of your deleted work you found images of a horrible car crash.

Hey Mark - glad you're OK. The superstitious would say these things come in threes, but I'm not one of them

Funnily. I had a dream about you this morning, Mark. We were in a bank queue. Tony pushed in.

Check your bank accounts.

I assume, Mark, you've brought the car in for an inspection at your local mechanic's. Even if it doesn't look like anything is wrong on the outside, on the inside the car can be all kinds of messed up.

Example: I was in a minor fender-bender late last year. The SUV that hit me appeared completely fine while we were sorting out the paperwork, then it began to whine loudly. It was eventually towed away.

Better safe than sorry: get it looked at. I imagine your insurance will cover it.

Some twat ran a red light in front of me a couple of years back. One second I'm taking the corner nicely at 25, the next second there's a fucking mondeo six inches in front of me. Didn't even have time to hit the breaks. Only thing that stopped me was slamming straight into the side of the mondeo (unfortunately the rear passenger door, not the drivers door so the fucker managed to drive off).

My car finished up two feet shorter than it was before I started out. Luckily old Peugeot 205's seem to have a built in crumple zone so the passenger compartment in my car was untouched. I walked out without a scratch but the car was deaded.
