A brief interview with the very gracious and talented Sarah Pinborough can be read on my grotty blog here, folks: http://stevejensen.eu/an-interview-with-sarah-pinborough She's not as well-dressed as JLP though... |

She looks surprisingly positive for a horror writer. What ever happened to having moody, introspective back sleeve photographs illustrating the inner torment of the horror writer's burden? You only have to glance at photos of Prof and Zed and you can almost literally sense the weight slung about their poor possessed shoulders. No, their shoulders aren't possessed...forget it. |

You're right, Frank - Sarah really should shave all her hair off & plaster her website with fonts which appear to drip blood if she really wants to be the new Steve Jensen. |

Steve - you're a mere baby. Me, I'm 38 and just shaved off my locks after a year of reliving my twenties. Can't decide which looks better, or which makes me feel younger. Considering neither of them do, it's a moot point. |

Oh Christ, trust me to get lines crossed. I'm not actually bald (in fact, I'm in dire need of a haircut!). There's a terrifying picture of me on my website's Bio page, if you want some target practice. |

No, mate. I didn't think you were bald. Not that it matters, it's hardly as if we're internet dating. I meant age has a funny way of persuading you to do things that might not seem so canny in hindsight. I grew my hair last year and had it cut off last week. I might post a photo to show you what I meant. |

Caroline - as somebody really asinine once said, tis better to have lost in love, then to never have loved at all.... Bollocks, really, isn't it? Doing a Humphrey Bogart impression,'See you kid, perhaps we'll meet and do a five an dime in some run-down sleazy, beat up, good for nothin' dive...i.e. maybe we'll chat on another thread, rehash the good times, have a drink...shed a few tears (sighs, picks up revolver...goes looking for a certain someone with a nice and pert ass) Oh, and Caroline, bet my ass is smaller, more pert than Mr Blobby's is. Your loss. Frank loses all self-control and respect... (The sound of a gun going off...a fat ass wobbles into view...the gun enters left of frame...so does the hand clutching it...camera pans back...LOL...it's Craig holding the offending weapon...and I don't mean the revolver...da dum) |

No, Steve, you're twising my words there. Actually I wanted to say to you, I'm quite envious of your interviewing ability - not to mention the speed with which you do them. I did a bit of interviewing over the last few years for an ezine, but it's come to a grinding halt now due to various other things getting in the way (life, eh?). I hope to get back to it one day as I really enjoyed it. But by the time I do, you'll probably have interviewed all the interesting people, you swine, you! |

Gawd, honestly, Caroline, I'm really grateful to the writers for making the interviews interesting - I always feel that my questions are, well, drab and uninformed (this is not false modesty - ideally, I'd need to read a lot more books so that I could ask truly perceptive questions). Luckily, the writers never fail to 'get their personalities across' in the interviews. |

Without being a complete hussy, I think you both have wonderful technique. You two can interview me any time. Not that I have anything mildly interesting to say, which should have become blatantly obvious by now, but if you two ever need to interview someone with an inside knowledge of Dutch Elm disease in mid-season...then I'm your man. I'm also a reasonably cheap date. Bag o chips and a can of Fanta and I'm anyone's. |

Caroline - that's okay. I've got a whole message-board of people just waiting to take your place (; You know, if you're worried about your husband, why don't you turn Mormon? That way everybody's happy. You get a new husband, your husband gets an extra pair of hands to weed the garden and mow the front lawn, and your parents-in-law get something to talk about. |

If I could just drag this engaging soap opera back on-topic for a second or two, I'd like to recommend Sarah Pinborough's new novella THE LANGUAGE OF DYING without reservation. It's a quiet, thought-provoking, emotionally intense portrait of a woman trying to deal with bereavement in the context of a seriously dysfunctional family. There are weird and supernatural elements, but they're used sparingly and in unexpected ways. Pinborough's handle on the workings of the unconscious has always been her secret strength as a writer, and this novella explores troubled psychology to memorable effect. OK – commercial break over – back to the RCMB virtual bedroom shenanigans. |

Careful, Frank. Just like WeberCraig on another thread, people will start to realise soon that FrankCaroline is one and the same person. Back to Sarah Pinborough .. I've never read any of her stories but I've seen her readings at various events in the last few years. She seems like an excellent writer. I ought to look out more of her work really. It's great to see the ladies producing some excellent horror writing - like Sarah and our very own Ally too, of course. |

I read this novella (The Language of Dying) recently, and I also thought it was excellent. Some parts were difficult to read, given the intimacy and detail involved of someone in the last moments of life, but the effort is well worth it. I didn't find it at all morbid; if anything, quite the opposite. Highly recommended. |
