I dreamed of you last night. I was trapped in an alpine village with a storm coming. When the darkness came people ran screaming into buildings. Things came out of the dark. There was something with the body of rotting treestump with ropey tendrils. Tall spindly things that mewled. I woke up, went back to sleep and the dream resumed. I'm prone to vivid dreams. | ||

Atoms are NEUTRAL because there is an EQUAL number of protons (+) and electrons (-). ie they balance. If an atom loses an electron it has more protons than electrons, so it becomes a POSITIVELY charged ion. CATion. If an atom gains an electron it has more electrons than protons, so it becomes a NEGATIVELY charged ion. ANion. | ||

Atoms are composed of: Protons; Neutrons; Electrons. Protons and Neutrons are IN the centre. Electrons are like clouds AROUND the centre. ATOMS - the number of protons and electrons is EQUAL. IONS - the number of protons and electrons is NOT EQUAL. Simply, if you pick off an electron - the atom is no longer balanced. | ||

This is frightening. I've just been reading in that Gene Wolfe story I mentioned on another thread that scientists (in the story) are starting to believe that there are only one neutron, proton and electron each in existence and that they have been bounding back and forward in time creating everything, everyone. Why would this pop up now, the day after I read it? If we are they and they are us it would figure that we talk to ourselves, that the universe hears us and answers. Anyone else freaked out by this? | ||

Twice this week me and my wife talked about funerals where the priest talks bullshit about the person they are burying. We said 'wouldn't it be great if someone got up and spoke out about that sort of thing?' The very next night we put on an episode of Peep Show to watch, the next we are due to see from the first series. In it a guy gets up and talks about the bullshit the person doing the sermon is talking. If these protons etc are buzzing about through time, carrying memories with them, wouldn't deja vu and coincidence make absolute sense? | ||
