Oh dear. Out of all the slashers from that era Nightmare on Elm Street is probably my favourite for all sorts of reasons so this can only upset me, although I may go just so I can hold up a copy of the DVD and say "THIS is God!" | ||

The increasingly awful sequels have unfortunately taken something away from what was really a rather remarkable film - it's use of sound effects alone is terrifying. "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" are very good indeed, but sandwiched between them was a lot of crap. | ||

Some of the imagery looks fun and I did like the opening shots. I'll see it too and probably be annoyed and roll my eyes a lot. And hold up a copy of the DVD from the other side of the cinema and shout "THIS is God!" to that rather eccentric gentleman over there in the opera cape... Yours safely in the States and jet-lagged as hell... | ||

I liked the original AKOES, lots. I'm just saying, again, 'cause maybe my point be missedified - to remake AKOES, is it tantamount to the rape of a vestal virgin? The leveling of a redwood forest grove? The defacing of the Sistine Chapel? Really? Honestly? | ||

AKOES = A Knucklehead on Elm Street? I liked the first film, but the sequels were generally horrible. I grew tired of Freddy's wisecracks very fast. WES CRAVEN'S NEW NIGHTMARE, though, was my favorite of the series. I don't mind if they remake the movie, but only because I've vowed not to see any more horror remakes. I saw TCM, The Fog, and Hills Have Eyes, and suddenly I was cured of any interest in the subject.  | ||

I'm a bit used to remakes - I remember all the Draculas and Frankensteins and used to look forward to them. They weren't so much remakes to me as giving us 'extra scenes' and ideas with our favourite characters in them. I thought of them as 'playing'. And I always wanted to see that opening scene. | ||

I like the idea of a "Knightmare". Yeah, Freddy's endless double entendres got very tiresome for me and they were NEVER scary. The first one was great and had some properly freaky moments. The rest were largely forgettable, but WC's NN was indeed something special. A terrific concept and the scene with Freddy before the mob attack gave me chills. Then, oh dear, there was Freddy vs. Jason. Or was it Jason vs. Freddy? Which I actually saw on DVD one night when I was bored. And felt like 2 hours of my life had been sucked into a wormhole. Some of us never learn... | ||

Ha! I really enjoyed that one. I even like the crappy sequels. Anyone who has spent a couple of weeks watching all the Jason movies will realise they really aren't that bad at all. | ||

I liked the original and then Dream Warriors- This is a Michael Bay 'Produced' picture- it is directed by Samuel Bayer who BTW directed, shot, lit, edited, Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' music video amongst other things. Anyone seen the Rick Ashley/ Nirvana video mashup BTW? Very funny. | ||

So a Michael bay production directed by someone who's never made anything longer than a music video - although the list of artists his worked with is quite impressive. This seems unlikely to be a good thing. I liked FVJ by the way. It was much more fun than it should have been. I actually think Ronny Yu who directed FVJ and Bride of Chucky is a pretty good director. | ||

Could be a good thing and a not so good thing. Some music video directors do make for interesting filmmakers in the longer form. David Fincher was one. Mark Romanek is another example of someone who has done interesting film work, and he came from music videos. Actually there are lots. But I can't tell anything from this remake, other than it looks OK visually. |
