Has anyone been watching these. Harper Island I think is one of the most gloriously trashy and bril;l;iant shows I've seen from the states in a while. It has (for me) the feel of one of those really silly 80's slasher flicks but with really high production values. It really should be a guilty pleasure but I can't find it in me to feel guilty about it. Watching the identikit cast of characters (and a few random extras) get bumped off in OTT nasty ways is great fun. The father of the bride had a spectacularly nasty exit. It's engagingly stupid in that it took 7 episodes before anyone realised that there was something fishy happening. Even the priest dying in episode 3 wasn't spotted. In short It's stupid, it's flashy, it's tacky and it's great fun. I've only seen the first episode of Flashforward but it's a cracking central concept and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series. |

I watched episode one of Harper - yes, incredibly gory! But those characters, so flat, so flat... |

Yeah, I only waitched Ep1 of Harper's Island. i agree with what you're saying, Weber, but the same aspects made me switch off. I like my slasher's down and dirty not like a naughty episode of Table For Five. I can't even be bothered to try that other show. It sounds too much like other things. Does anyone watch "Lie to me"? It's quite brilliant. |

I have been watching this series! much to GCW's disgust. It reminds me a little of Friday 13th, just when you think you might know who is doing the quite gorey murders...THEY then die some horrible death. My favourite character is the English guy...he is so funny! its probably him! |

Zed I have been watching Lie to Me.....there is a new series starting soon I believe. That guy is amazing, his "art" of knowing when someone is not telling the truth is so very tempting to use for yourself Could you imagine how well it would work when asking for a review! |

Retune yer Freeview, Des! It's Retune Day!!! Not heard of Harper Island - watched Flash Forward and enjoyed it but I'll see how it goes - don't really want to be dragged into another never-ending glossy US thing. Anyhow never mind that - Peep Show's been back a couple of weeks and no-one's mentioned it! |

Mick, I have re-tuned my Freeview already and I LOST Channel 5 as a result of that! And GAINED 'ITV3'. ARRRGH!! Honestly! Still got 'Fiver' and 'Five USA'. Is 'Flash Forward' repeated on FIVER? |

Ah ok, Des - I've just read a news item that says "as a result of the retune, 500,000 people will now be able to receive Channel 5. However, another 435,000 will lose it". Well that's ok then. |

I think the Harpers Island murderer is her ex-boyfriend the fisherman. He somehow failed to find the human head floating by the propellor of the boat when he cleared it in the first episode. And - more importantly - no suspicion has been thrown his way yet and he's closest to the lead character. Plus we just found out that he met the original murderer in the middle of a rampage 7 years ago and lived to tell the tale. |

I did watch Harper's Island and thought it was an entertaining show. It finished airing here in the U.S. a couple of month's ago. I changed my mind on who the killer was several times but did figure it out before the final reveal. |

I'm enjoying Harper's Island. I quite liked it that nobody realised what was going on until half way through the series, and loads had already been offed. The father's death was brilliant. And yeah, the English fellow cracks me up. |

Apparently it's adapted from a novel, although I don't know anyone who's read it. I gave up on Harper's Island after the first episode. I like Flashforward, although I'm only watching it because the end of Lost is imminent. |

I've been watching this with my missus. Nothing too demanding but i do like the grisly inventive deaths. The death of Madison's father by harpoon was a good sudden shock. Anyone catch the opening episode of 'True Blood' on 4 this week ? What did you think ? I found it all rather intriguing myself. |

Flash Forward - The second episode of this TV series has a Ligottian derelict factory - with silhouettes behind frosted glass - and loads of hanging dolls. And headless ones and just their heads... |

Not seen Harper's Island. Saw Ep 1 of Flash Forward but I didn't really give it my full attention -- forgot Ep 2 was even on. Tru Blood looks like it might be okay but it's a bit too early to tell. Of course my main complaint was that I was too tired to stay up after it and watch Generation Kill. |

Flash Forward...seen first 2 episodes True Blood, started to watch this on one of the Sky channels a few months back and stopped when we ran out of room on hard drive, will def be watching it on poor mans tv! |

Harpers island - Spoiler spoiler spoiler I was actually quite upset when the English guy was killed last night. I'm really liking this series a lot. I think Jimmy the fisherman is Wakefield's son. Also really enjoying Flashforward. It's deceptively high concept with the self-fulfilling prophecy aspect and the whole fate and predestination stuff. Surprisingly intelligent for a flashy big budget TV show. |

Flashforward - How good is this show? I'm loving it, as you may have guessed from another thread. When the FBI agent was shot the other week and they closed with that arial shot of her bleeding out, and the mobile alarm clock whirring round, making patterns in the blood, shouting at her to wake up - brilliantly done. the opening of the episode on the bus, seeing the blackout again while "Oh So Quiet" played on the guest star's ipod as the bus crashed into the lake... another Oh Wow, how great is that! moment. And apart from these standout moments, the storyline is pretty damned good as well. If you ain't watching it, why the hell not? |

'Flash Forward' is superb and reaching up to the standard of 'Lost'. Indeed, FF seems topically to reflect the retro-causality that respected scientists say is happeninging to the Large Hadron Collider. Perhaps everything is intertwined - and that in turn perhaps brings us to the RCMB 'Coincidence' thread. |

I'm enjoying Flashforward as much as your good self Weber. The multi stranded storyline has me genuinely intrigued. What's with those huge towers in the desert? What about the crows ? And last night's episode left me drained after the unexpected suicide of a supporting character. I would compare this series more to '24' than 'Lost'. The latter just seemed to ramble on aimlessly, series after series, with the distinct impression that the writers themselves weren't sure what the hell it was all about and were just writing it wherever it took them. I stopped watching a few episodes into series 2. I bet they're STILL on that feckin' island and STILL don't know what's going on. Whereas the former, like Flashforward, has a clear cut investigation for each series which also, like Flashforward, boasts a plot full of twists, double bluffs and the sudden exits of established characters. I'm also enjoying J.J. Abrams' new Sci-Fi/Horror series 'Fringe'. Anyone watching this one? A new version of 'The X-Files' with a team of FBI specialists investigating weird occurrences termed 'the pattern' which feature everything from genetic mutations, teleportation, mind control and unknown viruses to reanimation, serial killers, vampirism and parallel universes. The plots are really, really clever and the writing is convincing in its use of 'fringe' science themes. It also features Leonard Nimoy in a recurring role. 'Nuff said. |

At the end of season 3 of lost they announced there were 45 episodes left, that plot lines and explanations were set in stone (barring the death of unavoidable axing of a lead actor) The explanations started seeping through in season 3 and kept coming. And not all the characters are still on the island in season 4, season 5 apparently deals with those characters trying to return to the island but I've not seen that yet. I'm waiting to find the DVD for a reasonable price. Last night's flashforward were brill. A friend of mine last night told me that in the book the Hadron collider caused the flashforward... but there's been too many changes (eg the characters walking round in the blackout) for that to work as the solution. My worry is that at the pace they're taking the story, they won't be able to keep it going past one series once we hit April 17 or whatever the date was and we know what and who caused it all. |

It's certainly true that mt friend told me. He's fairly reliable so I'm 99% certain that it's actually true that that's the mechanical explanation in the book. |

Harper's Island was entertaining, though towards the end it kept annoying me the way that people didn't shoot Wakefield when they were armed and had the chance, and the way he kept just swaggering out in front of them without a gun. Just didn't ring true. Flash Forward is good so far. And I agree about the bus "It's oh so quiet" scene. That was gorgeous television. |
