Alas, he died last December. To my mind he was the greatest film critic of his generation - his book on Hitchcock was as much of a revelation to me (in terms of looking afresh at the cinema) as Lolita was in terms of looking afresh at language and how to use it in fiction. I'm saddened that his death wasn't more widely reported, but perhaps I just wasn't aware. Anyway, his achievement deserves to live on. |

Yes, I read his book on Hitch and found it similarly enlightening. |
