I loved this novel; I've read it twice over the years (and I've read only four books more than once) and I cannot praise it highly enough. Part supernatural horror, part detective novel and part theological debate and not to mention extremely frightening.
Anyone else familiar with this novel? But more to the point, what else can I read along a similar line?

I read it virtually in one sitting, Patrick. I thought it a truly excellent horror novel, and an excellent movie adaptation, though it would have been even better if the studio hadn't insisted on tacking on an OTT ending.

As for something similar. There were lots of demonic horror novels written in that era, but off the top of my head I can't think of anything that came close to being as intruguing as LEGION. Sorry.

Yes, the film is an underrated little masterpiece slowly gaining the cult status it deserves. Have you read any of Blatty's other novels? Excluding the obvious of course. I'm intrigued...

I think Cemetery Dance are doing a reprint of Legion and The Exorcist in a signed limited edition volume next year.

In film, THE NINTH CONFIGURATION is well worth a watch. It has some of the cast of THE EXORCIST III and much of its tilted humour.

I haven't read LEGION, but your description reminds me of THE CLUB DUMAS by Perez-Reverte (which was watered down for Polanski's THE NINTH GATE). Maybe that's up your alley, Patrick?

As my next project (after finishing 'The Count Of Eleven') I had already planned to read 'The Exorcist' (in my view a contender for best horror novel of the 20th Century) & 'Legion' (for the first time) back-to-back...
so I think the appearance of this thread counts as a meaningful coincidence (in my universe anyway).

Very excited to hear that an ARC of WPB's new novel DIMITER is winging it's way to me. Out from Tor/Forge in March http://us.macmillan.com/book.aspx?isbn=9780765325129 A review on Tales From The Black Abyss as soon as I get my grubby little paws on it
