I've got enough points on my Waterstones card that I can get a free book (as long as it costs less than 7.39)

Any recommendations?

Is Waterstones like Borders/Amazon/etc., where you can buy movies?... This just came out on dvd today - it says they're all unreleased - so you buy it first, Weber, and tell me if I should get it or not:

I hear China Mieville's new book is good.

I'm also quite curious about this one, but it's not out in the US:

(However, Amazon is selling that one for more than 7.39, alas.)

Save your money for the new William Gibson book, due in September, Weber. Incidentally, as you've a Waterstones loyalty card, do make sure you do as I do, and when you pick up the free magazine in-store, ask for eco-points with it. You get a magazine and 5p free then! (Assuming you don't use one of their bags.) Money saving/making tips from a Yorkshire man.

Grabinski, Grabinski and more Grabinski.

"In Sarah's House" from CB Editions is still in print I think. More pricey, but still brilliant is Ash-Tree's "The Motion Demon".

You won't regret it. If you do I'll give you your money back.

I love Stefan Grabinski's fiction.

This is a favourite quote of mine from one of his stories:

"Wrzesmian wasn't too popular. The works of this strange man, saturated with rampant fantasy and imbued with strong individualism, gave a most unfavourable impression by inverting accepted aesthetic-literary theories and by mocking established pseudo-truths. His output was eventually acknowledged as the product of a sick imagination, the bizarre work of an eccentric, maybe even a madman. Wrzesmian was an inconvenience for a variety of reasons and he disturbed unnecessarily, stirring peaceful waters. Thus his premature eclipse was received with a secret sigh of relief."
from 'The Area' by Stefan Grabinski

"The Area" is one of my favourite weird tales. It made me reference Grabinski in one of the tales in The White Hands collection.

It scared the hell out of me.

Which edition of The Dark Domain do you have Des? Is it the 1993 Dedalus one with the Franz von Stuck cover? (This is the one I have.)

The pages are now yellowing.

Toby Litt has a new one out soon - King Death, sounds interesting. Might wait a month and buy that instead... Although a new China Meiville is always going to climb up my buy now list.

The edition I have is the 1993 Dedalus with a von Stuck cover called 'Sensuality'.

I've just ordered that edition of The Dark Domain on your recommendation, chaps. Never read Grabinski before. If he isn't any good, I'll kill you both in a story.

I have the Ash-Tree Grabinski collection The Motion Demon. I liked it so much I got The Dark Domain for my dad for Christmas. Dedalus have some interesting books, especially their fantasy, Symbolist and decadent titles.
