Those zany guys over at Humdrumming Books have put together the following book trailer for my debut novel:

http://www.humdrumming.co.uk/blog/announcement/rain-dogs-video-trailer-now-playi ng/

I love it: 1970s tower blocks, faded victim photos, ominous voiceover and the constant sound of rain... :-)

Nice. Who cut the trailer? Looking forward to reading this Zed.

Alright today is the first day of a two day Copenhagen Comic Book Festival. I'm going to blow way too much money there today...And Paul Auster signs in Copenhagen and is doing two events next week.

Pity about the voice, though. He sounded like he was taking the piss.

Creepy.

I may have to dismantle that rainy alleyway in my flat.

Pity about the voice, though.

Yeah, Ian went overboard with the reverb, methinks - he was going for one of those movie voices, slightly tongue-in-cheek. Still, I've grown to love the slight cheesiness of it.

Is it becoming a trend, this book trailer thing? This is the first example I've seen.

It also took a long time to get 'Rough Cut', but I managed to track down a copy! It was excellent, btw.
It's a shame British small press won't ship to Australia.

Hubert - it seems that book trailers are the latest thing in indy publishing. Just another method of trying to get the word out...

Lincoln - thanks, mate. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm surprised Brit small presses won't ship to Aus; I'm almost certain Humdrumming would, mind you.

The voiceover sounds like the one from the original theatrical trailer for The Evil Dead, so bravo!

The music and imagery feel modern and the voiceover old-fashioned, which I also think works nicely (although seeing as I practically live in the 19th century but without the same diseases, thank heavens, I wouldn't know modern if it was tap dancing on a table and singing 'I'm SO modern, oh yes I am')

Aw, I can't see it on dial-up . . . Unless I stay online twenty years to download it. I'll be sure to have a look when I'm on broadband PC next.

Mind if I make a susggestion?

I'm assuming it's not been posted on YouTube. Ignore me if I'm wrong, please. But how about hosting it on there too? Can't harm.

'I'm happy to.'

Your (GFP) service has been first rate, Gary - sorry to lump you in with the others.
To be fair, it's only two publishers I've had trouble with, but they both have a lot of books I'm interested in.

While I think that the book trailer for Rain Dogs is effective and imaginative, I think book trailers are mostly terrible. Book trailers often end up looking like corporate power point presentations You know you can put a decent book trailer together with a hd camera, final cut pro, Protools, flash and photoshop. You could also just have some bloke standing on a hill and waving for thirty seconds and shoot it with an early nineties hi-8 camera and hand draw a title and release date and you could still get 20,000 hits on youtube. Quite surprised that people aren't using new media more to spread the word on books actually.
