. . . Alan Bleasdale? I'm rewatching GBH now for the first time in about 13 years and it's magnificent. He should have done more and more. (I loved Jake's Progress, but that's about it post-GBH. Never saw the Oliver Twist adaptation he did.) |

Oliver Twist was pretty good from what I remember of it. |

For me Bleasdale's 'Oliver Twist' is the greatest TV Dickens adaptation that's ever been made - it makes the rest of them look dull as dishwater (which they pretty much are). He didn't approach the material with too much reverence but came at it with energy and balls, breathing magical new life into the story and all those timeless characters. And 'GBH' is one of my favourite drama series of all time - magnificent indeed!! Whatever did happen to him?! |

I'm with Stevie - Bleasdale's Oliver Twist was bloody brilliant. Gary, I have a screener DVD of the series. I'll lend you it when you come over next Tuesday if you like. I reviewed Oliver Twist back in 2006, if anyone's interested: http://www.videovista.net/reviews/nov06/olitwist.html |
