Hi I'm putting together an anthology and have to get the cover file ready for the printers. We have a wonderful piece of artwork for the front by Vincent Chong but I have to add the spine and back. Does anyone have any experience of PagePlus and could talk me through the process? Cheers |

Hey....Good for you for getting a Vinnie Chong cover, also...wishing you well! 'the spine and back.' always the sticking point. There will be others along to help in a bit :>). |

Is this the antho I think it is, Ross? That cover is terrific. Wish I could help, but I've never even heard of PagePlus. Is it a bit like Teletext? |

I know nothing about PagePlus. So both Ally and Zed can stop staring at me like that. However... perhaps try Steve Upham or Chris Teague or Andrew Hook or Stephen Theaker? They all seem to deal with "odd software". Although the way Zed was looking at me was kinda making me hot & bothered...! |

Sorry, I use Quark rather than PagePlus, but I can try to help a bit. Exactly what you'll need to do will depend on who will be printing the book - Amazon POD, for example, give different instructions on covers to Lulu, and Lightning Source are completely different again. But the basics are the same. Find out how thick your spine should be - the printer will usually provide a calculator of some kind, because it depends on the thickness of paper they use etc. Then create a custom sized document that is as tall as your book, and as wide as back cover + spine + front cover (i.e. it'll look like the book cover opened out flat). Then place all your artwork and text on it in the appropriate places. Allow the colours and artwork to run 5mm off each side (that's the bleed, so that you don't get white bits when the cover is trimmed - there's always some variation in the trimming). That done, you can then adjust it for whatever printer you're using, or slot your bits into any templates they provide. |

@ Gary - Yes it is that one. We have the ISBN numbers sorted now so it's just a case of getting it ready for Biddles. @Ian - Steve at Screaming Dreams has been really helpful with formating the manuscript and I felt bad about petering him any further lol |

Interesting. I didn't know you could get a book made so (relatively) cheaply nowadays. I don't think we have anything like Biddles here in Belgium. |
