Well I really enjoyed this, even if young Shaun Fields' (see what he did there) girlfriend is still one of the worst actresses ever. There's naturalistic dialogue and there's flat. her delivery was so flat the walls were jealous. However that was a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent little series. Spoiler The rape scene was one of the most disturbing I've seen on TV and the murder the following week was equally brutal. The choice of music to accompany both scenes was masterly. |

Just watched this whole series over the last two evenings...wow. Shane Meadows has been a favourite of mine since I first saw Smalltime and Where's the Money, Ronnie on some late night Ch4 thing way back in 1997 or so, and he's done himself proud here. This was constantly compelling and occasionally extraordinary television. The original film was very good indeed, but this raised the ante and was excellent. |
