Well, I'm rather chuffed to announce that my debut collection WITH DEEPEST SYMPATHY will be published in hardback by Obverse Books and will out around the end of September. They have done some sterling work with THE PANDA BOOK OF HORROR and the OBVERSE BOOK OF GHOSTS looks like it's going to be a sterling collection. So yeah...Cover up when I get it. CONTENTS A Return to the Judge's House With Deepest Sympathy Gun Money Jesus Wept The Bag Lady Falling in Love with a Dead Boy Losing the Plot Bloody Conventions The Spoon The Trapper Life through a Lense The Family Business Stour Bridge Final Draft |

Well,a copy of this is now in my possession and Obverse Books have done Johnny proud with a splendid,aesthetically-pleasing volume which is a pleasure to hold in the hand. The collection is introduced by Nicholas Royle and rear-ended by my favourite micturition man,JLP. I'd like to review this but I'm too biased in favour of Uncle Johnny to be ruthlessly objective about his material. Perhaps a cold-eyed cowboy (or girl) could step forward from the board's shadows to perform the task? BTW,this book has the finest dedication page I've ever encountered. |

Obverse haven't sent me this one for review, but I did enjoy Ms Wildthyme and Friends Investigate, especially the Professor Challenger story. Am I right to think this book isn't set in the obverse? I did like the idea of a series of books set in a shared universe, but I suppose it would limit their publishing options. |

Stephen - perhaps if Obverse Books know you want a review copy - and they happen to read this - they might send you one. Indeed,Johnny himself may oblige. No sense of 'obversity' about this volume. It seems to be more of an addendum to the publisher's Panda Book of Horror series. As you would expect from Mr Mains, many of his stories are executed in the old Pan Horror style. |

Good afternoon to you,Stevie. Grey skies over Belfast? They're certainly ominous here in Cornwall.Irrelevant enquiry really, for the sun smiles down upon you wherever you may be. Listen,I don't know whether you have,or intend to obtain, this volume of Johnny's,but one thing struck me forcibly about it as a product: IMO it makes the Kindle,et al,seem like a nasty little plastic box. It's all down to convenience I guess. But then of course the lemmings' mantra is..'All convenience;no aesthetics'. |

Always good to see you back here, Alex. What you been up to? Writing more stories I hope! Grey skies indeed, and a wintry nip in the air, but I'm off to the pub now - so who cares lol. |

"Stephen - perhaps if Obverse Books know you want a review copy - and they happen to read this - they might send you one. Indeed, Johnny himself may oblige." If they do send over a pdf I wouldn't complain, but doing the admin on FantasyCon has left me so far behind on reviewing that I'm not actively asking for stuff until I've caught up a bit. I've got four CDs and a novel to review just by Paul Magrs... |
