Out monday. Anyone else ordered it? http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B003WUXJ2G%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAJKTXY WBP4ZI3F6WA%26tag%3Dfindhotelinth-21%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3 D165953 Mark Kermode feels it explores some of the same ideas von Trier did with ANTICHRIST. |

One of the greatest horror films of its era imo. Caught it one night on Film 4 years ago, introduced by Kermode, and found it mesmerising. Isabelle Adjani & Sam Neill gave stunning performances, I thought, and the bizarre atmosphere and understated special effects put me in mind of David Cronenberg directing one of Ramsey Campbell's more surreal stories. It was all there; the grimy urban setting, the concentration on characters descending into paranoid nightmare, the inexplicably tangible horrors forming out of nothing. An unreservedly adult horror masterpiece that belongs in every serious fan's collection. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxVdtYAs8-w Steve - the Poles don't make many horror films, genre films, but when they do (: |

I agree with all of the above - I can now replace my knackered old VHS copy (which I have no machine to play on anyway). |

A film you can't get out of your head, once seeing. And keep in mind Barker's "The Hellbound Heart"/HELLRAISER throughout viewing.... |

True, Craig... I never noticed the similarity before, but you're right! |

I've had this for ages on DVD (Anchor Bay) - didn't realise it was hard to find. Adjani's scene in the underpass is pretty intense, as is the ending. |

The ending, Huw, was for me almost totally inscrutable - as was much of the movie, a movie that does not explain itself in any way easily. But the ending of POSSESSION, I found not only crazed, but one of the most disturbing closes to a movie ever... a truly horrifying climax.... An analogy would be to think the ending to Fulci's THE BEYOND - only not so hilarious.... |
