Dear All I may not be the first to want to do this but I want to publish "The Best of Peeping Tom" as an Exaggerated Press book next year. I have the considerbale support of that excellent chap Allen Ashley for this. I feel that I should contact its editor and publisher first but where are they? Does anyone know how I can get hold of Stuart Hughes and/or David Bell? Regards Terry |

Terry - I would hope that the publisher and the editor would be the first people you would get in touch with. It almost sounds like they are an afterthought? Plus - permission would be needed from all the authors and other people who wrote for Peeping Tom, plus any artists. Costly, but would be brilliant if it could be pulled off. Peeping Tom was a brilliant magazine. |

Dear Johnny Absolutely, I wouldn't think of doing this without their consent and involvement. Yes, it is a major undertaking and may not come off, but I want to at least have a go. If only I can track down the author of "Hubert", how I love that story... Regards Terry |

Good luck with this, Terry. If you can get the illustrations (as in the Jones & Sutton anthology The Best Horror from Fantasy Tales) that will be wonderful. I'm proud to own the original of a superb PT back cover illustration by Madeleine Finnegan (showing a youth with wings – his own I mean, not from KFC). PT had an organic identity and function: it showcased UK small press horror fiction and included, but was by no means limited to, some grim and scuzzy material. It contained great examples of the early Conrad Williams among others. It opted out of both slipstream experimentation and genre traditionalism to offer unrestrained but intelligent horror, usually set in small-town Britain. |

Just to keep the interested apprised of the situaltion regarding a "Best of Peeping Tom" anthology. I now have the backing and support of the two former editors and publishers, Stuart Hughes and David Bell. I will probably need some help with this, tracking, down the relevant authors for example. This won't be a quick job and I'm not going to make any sort of real effort until after I've sent "The Monster Book for Girls" out into the world. Any thoughts, advice and ideas are welcome. I would liek to publish the Peeping Tom book as an Exaggerated Press publication, but if any other publishers are interested please let me know because your experience and resources might benefit this project. A project I feel is important because PT had such a pivotal role. Cheers Terry |
