The Xmas book haul's looking good:

Ramsey's new un, with a great cover by the guy who did Gary's novel's cover (they look better in life than pictured on the net).

James Lee Burke's new Dave Robicheaux novel, The Glass Rainbow.

The New Uncanny anthology from a couple of years back, featuring a good spread of authors.

And the lovely new Waterstones hardbacks classics version of Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood.

Fine, fine, fine. How lucky we are to receive gifts.

I fared well on the book front too, and also received a wide range of music CDs, such as the new Elton John/Leon Russell album, Kate Rusby's most recent and a 3 CD King Tubby 'best of'...

Not my biggest haul of books this year, and I received my first Christmas cardigan - though the design does feature subtle little skulls!

There were two Showcases - Blackhawks 1 and Superman Family 3 - both of which begin by apologising for the racism therein.

The QI Annual and The Fry Chronicles. Very exciting to get an annual again.

Best of all, from my mum, The Art of McSweeney's; magnificent and inspirational.

I got the King collection and I picked up "scourge", a 1980 horror novel from a 2nd hand bookshop.

I got the James Ellroy edited BEST NOIR OF THE CENTURY, a hefty tome, with lots of juicy stuff methinks in it.

On my own, I was happy to find for a few bucks, a collection of Manly Wade Wellman's Silver John stories, JOHN THE BALLADEER. I'd read the one from DARK FORCES, and just recently in my other hefty tome "Vandy, Vandy," and was re-impressed.

Looking forward to reading these and more in the new year! If only I'd Stevie's fortitude and boundless energy, I'd be making good time and doing fine indeed....

I got an impressive book haul, and I'd have got an impressive DVD haul too, if any of them had arrived in time. In fact, if any of them had arrived at all. Great work by our favourite online stores. Ordered in mid-December, and I'm still waiting.

John the Balladeer (or the shorter edition Who Fears the Devil) is one of the cornerstone collections of any horror/fantasy fan's library, Craig. I have a well-read and worn copy next to my bed (in between Leiber's Night's Black Agents and RC's Alone with the Horrors). Hope you enjoy it!

I'm looking forward to reading it Huw! Greatly!

Imagine my shock to find this pristine, uncracked, perfect version at a local $5 bookstore - and it wasn't even $5, it was $3 - then I come home, look it up on Amazon... only one other copy available and it's going for $65!!!
