I've over-plugged this book on this forum already, so this will be the last you'll hear about it from me. I did feel obliged to make an effort to promote it, for the sake of my publisher (as well as myself, of course!)

the brothel creeper

I received my copies yesterday. I think it's my best collection to date. But what would I know? Authors are generally not the best judges of their own work. Nonetheless, that's what I truly believe.

Twenty tales of sexual and spiritual tension (21 tales if you buy the hardback)... Includes some of my finest stories (in my opinion), such as 'The Quims of Itapetinga', 'The Sickness of Satan', 'The Indigo Casbah', etc.

It also includes the story I submitted to Exotic Gothic a couple of years ago: editor Danel Olsen claimed it was "one of the best stories he'd ever read"; the publisher, Christopher Roden, claimed it was "poorly written and silly"... Clearly there's a huge difference of opinion on the merits of my work. Why not make up your own mind by buying the book and reading it, etc...

It's available from Gray Fiar Press here:

Righto! I've fulfilled the terms of my contract by plugging it again. Now I'll leave you in peace. Thanks for listening! Bye!

Oops! Sorry for the size of that image! I did try to make it small, but my computer skills aren't brilliant! If anyone can make it smaller, I'd be grateful...

In my case, too. But can we stick to talking about your book?

It's a beauty, isn't it?

My, but that does look good.

Also pleased to see Howard's Solomon Kane further down the pile. I think it must be the US 1970s volume, one of three that covered the whole awesome story-cycle.

"Death! Death! There are skulls in the stars!"

Well spotted, Joel!

Yes, it's the last of the three, probably the weakest volume of the lot, but then again the character of Kane is so remarkable that he even carries the weak stories...

Directly below it is The Dice Man by Luke Rheinhart, one of those books which might be brilliant or might be utter crap. I just can't decide!

Ditto the book directly below that, which is Lawrenece Durrell's Monsieur.

Lawrence Durrell's MONSIEUR. Wow! The Avignon Quincunx - the world knows no greater literature.

So far, I really think this collection is *the* Rhys Hughes collection. I'm surprised it hasn't had more publicity and reviews.

Well, I published this and other books when I was working 10-hour days and many evenings and some weekends. Not a great excuse, I know, but that's the truth of it, alas. :-(

It didn't have any publicity because it was written by me.
It didn't have reviews because it was written by me.

That's the real truth, I think.

Following on from that, I found myself reviewing 'God in a Basement Flat'!

And, Gary, it's a great book, well packaged etc, but I don't think the overall title does it any favours, at least with some potential readers of it. Just a thought.

I've finished my real-time review of this unique book: follow my audit-trail in it to discover how Rhys has created 'lovecraft'. :-)
