The hardback edition of The Brothel Creeper has finally arrived at my house, after a delay with the printers. It's a limited edition (only 100 exist) and I've signed and numbered them and I'll be mailing them out as soon as possible. Yes, that's a long friggin story, even though it could be told in about 150 words (but length doesn't always feel long). In contrast, the total length of words of all 21 stories in this book is somewhere in the region of 105,050 words, making it a fairly substantial volume. | ||

How long a certain length feels might depend on whether it takes the form of a column or a thread. It's the same with writing, of course. | ||

The packaging did, indeed, protect the book - from the claws and teeth of one of my new moggies who was trying to open it by the time I reached the bottom of the stairs. I think she thinks she's a dog! I hope to start reading it tonight - while I'm propped up in bed at a 45 degree angle due to that being the only position I can sleep in at the moment (long story, but it involves some new pills from the doctor, an adverse reaction, and a trip to A&E last weekend  ). I'll probably be reading until the medication kicks in ... | ||

Just the two, Weber - though it feels like 200! We lost our dear old Sylvester last November, but we adopted two little girls from Cats Protection just over a fortnight ago. They're complete maniacs! I'd forgotten how much work adolescent cats can be! So I'm not quite as bad as the mad cat lady you portrayed me as in your story, Weber - but I'm getting that way ...  | ||

I can vouch for this being a great book, at least so far. I read The Cuckoos of Bliss the other night and the sheer, wonderful mathematical daftness of it all had me chuckling with delight! | ||
